I've had a message from a colleague in Mexico. That Colin Hamilton BBC broadcaster for 21 years on BBC including Radio 2 Roundabout in 1968, and World Service “Outlook" and ‘Around the World’, has died, apparently he was murdered in Puerto Vallarta Mexico on July 24, 2015.
The authorities are suppressing/ censoring the news so I'm told, but I expect the BBC will confirm.

From Colin’s webpage:
Colin Hamilton
Apartment 10, Torre Allende
Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
Email: colinshamilton@gmail.com
British born I was educated and raised in what are now Zimbabwe and Zambia.
Wrote a weekly column for a newspaper whilst still at school.
Began my career on a daily newspaper in Lusaka (based in Ndola) before moving to Kenya to become a Junior programme Assistant with the African Broadcasting Service, Nairobi.
Transferred to Tanzania (TBC) as Swahili Programmes Organiser. Then moved to the South African Broadcasting Corporation in Cape Town as Announcer and producer. Wrote numerous features before being offered the post of Senior producer with the newly launched Kenya Broadcasting Corporation, Nairobi.
On a TV training course in London with the BBC I was offered a daily programme on the BBC - Radio 2. I resigned from Kenya and moved to London.
I saw no great future in remaining a music/chat presenter and so returned to the news field, presenting "South East"
The BBC World Service then invited me to script and present a thrice-daily
newsmagazine, "Outlook" where I remained for 21 years broken only by a six month stint with WKAT Talkradio in Miami.
Special editions of 'Outlook" broadcast from various overseas countries - United States, Singapore, Gibraltar, Malaysia. , Writer and Producer of many features for the BBC, including "Exploring London with Colin Hamilton".(R4 series repeated on World Service), "Pop Goes the Music:" (exploring the popular music industry), "Rhyme and Reason".
BFBS International Satellite - senior newsreader and presenter of weekly
"Weekend with Two".
Voice for numerous TV commercials, the Rank Organisation and British Movietone News
Interests: Writing, travel, Africa, animals,
Published writer: Yes
Freelance: Yes

I have forwarded the message to the BBC World Service e-mail contact. Having had no acknowledgement I've also e-mailed the BBC News Channel and BBC 5live.

Contacting the BBC by email is a bit frustrating, all you get is automated replies so you don't know if anyone is actually reading your messages.

Because the information needs confirming officially I don't think posting via Twitter or Facebook or DigitalSpy is appropriate, what do folks here think?

Is there a BBC person that I should phone about this, at least to know that someone can acknowledge the message?

John

I'm not sure who I'd contact but why not try Ken Bruce or his producer Gary Bones? They do read emails as far as I know. I think they probably both will be back on Monday? It's usual ken. or gary. surnames @bbc.co.uk You may not get a direct response back immediately but if you add 'can you advise whoever may be interested' I'm sure they will forward your message on.

I'd get in touch with Malcolm Prince, he's old school and works weekends. Malcolm.Prince@bbc.co.uk

Thanks for replies.

I've had it confirmed that one of Colin's family has been to Mexico to take care of Colin's body.

Not knowing if the BBC had read/acknowledged my emails to the newsrooms, I contacted a former BBC producer who I know and who has the right contacts, so hopefully the BBC as an organisation can pay some tribute to Colin.

John
