I can't I believe I didn't start a thread about this show when I saw it at the Chichester Memorial Theatre last November. It transferred to London this year, has just closed and I read in the paper today that it was taped by the BBC for transmission in the future.

It was such a good show and Imelda Staunton was outstanding as Mama Rose. The part of Herbie, her would-be husband and staunch protector of her daughters, can come over as rather insipid so I hope Peter Davison made something of it. Kevin Whateley played him at Chichester and in the film version Karl Malden was a delight.

I heard Peter Davison was great in the part. We'll all find out at Christmas when it's on BBC2!

Stage mothers!! Shocked Shocked Shocked

I caught up with this production this afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed it

Imelda Staunton lived and breathed the part of Rose ...she was terrific!

I've always liked Peter Davison so it was nice to see him in a theatre role.

'Gypsy' herself didn't shine so much, for me,as her sister (baby)'June' did.

(A bit of trivia - June grew up to be June Havoc)

It was just fantastic! It was so good to see the actors' faces in close-up and the camera work was excellent in shooting a stage production so successfully.

Imelda Staunton was terrific and I must say Peter Davison was a delight as Herbie.
