BBC has announced Mark Goodier will host Pick of the pops for at least the next 4 weeks. Mark used to present alongside other shows the Radio One Chart show. He also covers shows for Radio 2.
Who should be a permanent replacement for Tony? How about bringing back Bruno Brookes who also hosted the Radio one chart.? |

All worth avoiding in my view...
Maybe Johnnie Walker
Radio 2 has very limited choice these days, maybe someone new who knows about music... |

Funnily enough when I was listening to Mark's afternoon show today the thought occurred to me that in all probability he would be the best choice to take over POTP
He has a decent knowledge of music and probably wouldn't be so dependent on Phil Swern unlike TB
I wouldn't mind Bruno Brookes - I think everyone knows he was kicked in the teeth by a famous former R1 controller so whether he would want to return to the BBC is a very much a moot point - Johnnie Walker would also be a very good choice _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

I agree about the choice being limited, it crossed my mind today.
As for someone who knows about music, does it really matter? I'm not sure that Alan Freeman knew a great deal (I'll stand corrected if anyone knows more) but as the first presenter of Pick Of The Pops he was a hard act to follow and the show is about the 'charts' not just the music. The record buying public don't always show a great knowledge of music either (IMHO!)!!

I think it is too. Most of the knowledgeable ones were got rid of by the likes of Lesley Douglas and those since, in their obsession with comedians / actors playing at being DJs. I think they might have to see if they can persuade some of those they dumped back into the fold. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

As long as they don't give it to Steve Wright, I couldn't bear another two hours of Steve's karaoke _________________ The wheel keeps on turning...

I thought Mark was very competent today without being very exciting
I suppose he probably feels somewhat uncomfortable about the whole circumstances just like the rest of us - if so I'm not sure he'll want to carry on beyond the initial four weeks _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

Has everyone forgotten Pick of the Pops on Radio 2 has mainly been hosted by Dale Winton? Hardly the first person you think of when it comes to a knowledgeable music broadcaster! |

Agreed, but it doesn't mean we can't have someone who does have the knowledge, rather than cheesy DJs...
and I hope they drop reading out peoples texts/emails/twitterings |
