The last two BBC Messageboards are to close in a couple of weeks it was announced yesterday....
Hello everyone, my name’s Simon, and I’m the Series Producer of Points of View.
Today we’re announcing both Points of View message boards will close in just under two weeks at 12 noon on Monday 13 June. While all current posts will be archived and remain available to view, the boards will be closed to new posts from that date.
The Points of View team appreciate this will be disappointing news for the boards’ regular visitors and users. We’ve always enjoyed reading the boards, and the lively debate around programmes they’ve hosted.
Over the last few years, as social media has played a growing role in our online lives, we’ve seen traffic to the Points of View boards decline sharply, as has the number of active users.
The Points of View message boards have hung in longer than most. Back in 2011, the BBC announced they’d be moving away from hosting message boards, and since February 2013 (with the closure of the Archers’ board), they’ve been the only message boards in existence on the BBC website.
While I appreciate the closure of the boards is disappointing, I do hope you’ll continue to provide your feedback to the Points of View team – which you can do via e-mail at pov@bbc.co.uk, or through our website – www.bbc.co.uk/pov....
Finally, you can also join in the conversation about the week’s television programmes on our Twitter and Facebook pages. We’re @bbcPoV on Twitter https://twitter.com... or you can find us on Facebook here: https://www.faceboo.... I do hope we’ll see you there.
I’d like to thank Brenda and Darren for their time as hosts on the board – both will continue to work on other projects within the BBC. And of course, thanks to past hosts including Peter, Dee and Peta just to name a few.
Mostly, however, I’d thank to thank you for all your posts over the years. We acknowledge the real sense of community that’s been established on the boards.
I still post on there now and again and will be sad to see them go... |

Yes, Becky, I too will miss the Points of View MB and post there occasionally. I will not be taking up their suggestion of using Facebook or Twitter. |

A few alternative boards have been suggested for the POV members to join if they so wish when the board closes.
This board has been started up specially and there are nearly 100 members already from the POV board so if anyone fancies going there when the BBC board closes this is the link to it.

I had no idea any of the BBC message boards were still going, the new place looks nice. |

Yes it does Toggy. I noticed it the other day but didn't have time to read very much. I'll try and register later on.
Dated as message boards are supposed to be I do like to be able to read and comment on them!

Becky that looks quite good. Someone else on the BBC POV board also gave a link to it.
I see it is hosted by ProBoards which hosts my favourite Mustardland Archers board, so I shall be joining it.
It is useful that they have sections for other TV companies apart from the BBC.
I have registered with them.
Also, unlike the BBC POV board, you can edit your posts! |

Trouble in paradise already!
The person who runs the new board seems a bit of a control freak so one of the members has formed a new one.

I saw that too Becky! It sort of brought back a few memories for me.
