I always find it so sad when a creator of great comedy leaves us. He and David Croft were sublime as a partnership and I am still laughing at their shows made decades ago.
RIP Jimmy.
PS When I saw an article in the paper a couple of years ago in which he regretted that It Aint Half Hot Mum would never be repeated on TV because it was deemed politically incorrect for our times, I immediately bought the box set. |

Good on you Eileen
Political correctness is one of the great evils of our society today which has completely ruined comedy and what's more it seems to be applied only selectively
For example apparently we're not allowed to watch 'It Ain't Half Hot Mum' but we can quite happily watch things like 'Rising Damp' on ITV 4 with it's racial jokes - and quite correctly in my view
We're not allowed to watch 'Till Death Us Do Part' even though in numerous interviews Warren Mitchell explained that the show was meant to be a skit on racist attitudes of the day - but we can feel not the least bit guilty about watching 'On The Buses' with it's highly sexist agenda
We mustn't set eyes on anything involving that great comedy genius Benny Hill but there's absolutely no problem in us watching old shows of 'The Two Ronnies' with all their 'so called ' sexist double entendres
These were shows of their time but cannot and should not be erased from history any more than the likes of Gary Glitter can be erased from the history of glam rock - whatever we may feel about his behaviour in this day and age
Getting back to the sad news about Jimmy Perry he was a great comedy writer of whom there are sadly very few around these days
