Next time you are having a meal just look round at other diners.
WHY?
To see how many have their mobile phone on the table.
Between courses they don't chat to those round the table they check for messages or send a text.
Just strikes me as really rude.
My phone stays in my pocket only to be answered if it rings.

I've noticed that too, I rarely use my phone, it's a rackety old thing that I just keep with me in case of emergencies. Most of the time it's turned off, I never turn it on in a restaraunt or cinema, I think it's so bloody rude. Mad

People are obsessed with mobiles and can't leave 'em alone. Really annoys me in the cinema.

I was in a meeting the other day, and everyone knew it would be rude to answer - sadly this meant they just kept bleeping for hours...

Ian there was a programme a couple of years ago.
It was a young woman who was a haidresser.
She said She could not live without her mobile.
She even put it under her pillow just in case.
SO SAD. Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil
How did we manage years ago?
Also when was the last time you saw someone in a red public phone box.
As rare as rocking horse droppings i would imagine Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

I agree with you all, they are handy for emergencies etc but nowadays people walk around with them all the time! Maybe we missed a lot of important calls before we had them!
I was at a Springsteen concert, fantastic weather, open air, really enjoying the concert, a young girl next to us did nothing but text all the evening! I couldn't believe it!!! I don't think she even knew who was singing never mind what he was singing! The price the tickets are today she could have switched her phone off and enjoyed listening to Bruce! I did!

People who watch their mobile phones constantly in company are sending out the signal that they would rather be somewhere else than with the people they are with at that moment.

Another thing I consider to be rude (and a bit chavvy) is when - as occurred to us in a nice country pub restaurant early yesterday evening - a couple sat to eat. The guy, who was in his mid/late 30s, wore a stupid looking baseball cap throughout the whole time they ate, he drank beer from the neck of a bottle (obviously not worried about what the rats do on the necks of the bottles when they run across the top of the crates) and was constantly talking on his phone and texting.

And he was talking loudly.

Mr. S. referred to him as "an ignorant pill-ock" and I think that adequately sums up the selfish young man!

Where I work we are not even allowed to have phones switched on for security reasons. A day without buzzes, beeps or infuriating ringtones is bliss.

Smile Smile

Who needs 24/7 contact I certainly don't. We managed perfectly well without it BMP (before mobile phones)

Mine's just for emergencies - when I can get a signal half-way up a mountainside, that is.... can't stand the damned things otherwise.

I see people in our staff canteen on their breaks playing with them, downloading ringtones and trying to outdo each other with the latest wallpaper and cheesy music. Life seems to revolve around them, folks waiting for the next message from a friend - obviously they must be terribly insecure or extremely attention-seeking. Mostly it's just a vehicle to show off by talking in stage whispers about some 'great' thing they are doing later on, or something they're bragging about buying, wearing or drinking. Hurrah. I'm so glad to read this thread, I thought it was just me who found mobiles annoying.
I really really hate it when people use them in cinemas, theatres, etc, it is so ignorant and selfish. I just can't believe that people just can't live without their mobile for a couple of hours, I find it rather pathetic really.

I drive past a school on my way to work and the kids all seem to have phones glued to their ears. Who on earth are they talking to at 7.30 in the morning. Can it really be important? Shocked

One thing I like about flying (and I do rather more of it than is good for me) is that you're not allowed to use mobiles. Lovely.

Mind you, I can't imagine how intolerable it would be if airlines like Ryanair allow the use of the things on their flights (even if it will cost a fortune). It will be like on a commuter train into/out of London only we'll be truly captive!

My mates are all in their thirtees and insist on texting me when they know I'm in the house!!!

As soon as I get in from work, the mobile get's switched off and put in me bedside drawer.

So at 8.30ish, I'll get a call: "Oi!! why you ignoring me, I've sent you three texts!!"

Why the blooming heck don't they try the house phone and actually speak to me?!!

The thing I find most irritating is the "call waiting" facility. How rude is it to say, "I'm sorry, there's someone else waiting to get through."
The only answer to that is "That's allright, I was hoping to go for a pony, but talking to you was slightly better." Laughing

If that place had rats in it, did it get closed down?

That's not what I was getting at. The stacking yards at breweries, distribution centres and even yards of pubs attract rats which crawl over crates and pee on the bottles. I used to work for a brewery company years ago and we used to watch them. People who drink beer from the neck of a bottle are stupid - really stupid!
