It is being bandied around that Andy should be knighted but he himself is quoted as saying that he is too young and that he could still mess up in his life. |

Or maybe the year for Dan Evans.....? ..after a brilliant win over seventh seed Marin Cilic.
Murray will face American world number 32 Sam Querrey in the third round, while Evans will take on Australian 27th seed Bernard Tomic. |

Andy next plays Mischa Zverev and Dan plays Tsonga.
Now then, both these matches will be taking place at about 3am our time. Hmm … shall I … Perhaps not |

Dan was totally ignored by none other than Kevin Pietersen this week. I suspect it may well be KP who will be ignored, very soon...I've been following Dan's progress for a few years now. Finally, he seems to be putting in the hours needed to take him to wherever he wants to go.

I fancy him to beat Tsonga, too. Just hope I haven't put the mockers on him by saying so. _________________ life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans |

I can't believe it! Andy has been beaten by an unseeded player. How sad for him but on the other hand the German Mischa Zverev is a serve and volley man and if this signifies a return to that style of play I am all for it.
Tough luck Andy. |

Federer has beaten Nishikori in 5 sets. In spite of the disappointments for the Brits, this is turning out to be an outstanding and very exciting tournament and we still have Jo Konta. I just love Federer. |

Woke up to hear that Andy was on his way out but that Dan had taken the first set off Tsonga.
Ended up a very disappointing day. |

I couldn't agree more, Eileen. It was so refreshing to see somebody showing so much skill at the net. There's a piece on the BBC website with Agassi more or less saying that if Andy would incorporate about 5% more of that into his game, then he would be a much better player and wouldn't take so much out of himself.
As for Dan Evans, well, it was like Gulliver's Travels when he was on court against Jo-Wilfred Tsonga. The Frenchman looked even bigger, with his new hairstyle. I wouldn't mind seeing him win the tournament, as he's such a nice man. As shown in this...

Lovely story....lovely man.
Good luck to Johanna Konta for Wednesday
British number one Johanna Konta believes she has done everything she can to be ready for her first meeting with 22-time Grand Slam winner Serena Williams at the Australian Open.
Konta, 25, will face second seed Williams in the quarter-finals on Wednesday.
"I've played quite a few Grand Slam champions and former world number ones," said world number nine Konta.
"So I've prepared myself as much as possible for a competitor like Serena."

An all American women's final on Saturday. Serena is no surprise but I thought Venus had had her day. Just shows what can happen if you have the talent and are prepared to keep working hard. It would be fantastic for her if she could beat her sister.
Would love to see Nadal get through to the final with Roger.....and win. |

What an amazing game of tennis. Nadal just refuses to be beaten! I just hope the day's difference in recovery time, doesn't prove to be a factor in Sunday's final.
Surely nobody ever thought we'd see these two great players contest a major final again. Yes, we've had our Djokovic and Murray years...but these two are something else. I missed the classic Wimbledon final of 2008, as I was at the first Hop Farm Festival.
I'm hoping nothing crops up between now and Sunday, to stop me from seeing this one. _________________ life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans |

Your man won,Eileen, and deservedly so.
It was a terrific match..I thought Rafa had it when he broke Roger in the first game of the fifth set but Roger wasn't having any of it.
Gracious talk afterwards from Roger saying it should have been a draw...even if it was a bit tongue in cheek. |

I like the story about Rafa inviting Roger to the opening of his tennis academy last summer, when he had a dodgy wrist and Roger a gammy knee. They played softball tennis with the youngsters and talked about perhaps playing an exhibition match for charity although neither was up to it at that stage. If only they could have looked 4 or 5 months into the future … |

Anyone watching the Davis Cup matches this weekend? Dan Evans needs to win the first singles this afternoon otherwise it will all be down to Kyle Edmund who may not be quite up to the mark. |

Well, Kyle Edmund was up to the job and was well on the way to winning but what a dreadful way for the match to end. That poor umpire! I do hope there is no lasting damage to his eye.
The Canadian youngster will have this hanging over him for quite some time and this incident has given a severe warning to all other players who vent their frustration in this way. |

A hard lesson learned for that 17 year old,Eileen. What on earth was he thinking of?
It sounds as if there is no lasting damage to the umpire's eye. It could all have been very different.
Edmund was winning but it could have been turned round. We'll never know now. |

Yet again, Federer has done it! His renaissance this year has been just phenomenal. I even stayed up till 3.30am the other night to watch his semi-final against Kyrgios which was scintillating on both sides. |

Our Davis Cup tie against France starts at 1pm today. We don't have a good record on clay but Tim Henman, who reached the French Open semis in 2004, is mentoring Dan Evans this weekend. C'mon Tim - I mean Dan .
Kyle Edmund is up against Pouille in the first match and there is no Tsonga, Monfils or Gasquet to bother us. |

Dan Evans must be kicking himself, to say the least. What an absolute idiot. The most expensive night out in history.
My son in law has tickets for the opening day on Centre Court. I hope Andy's fit enough to do himself jusitice. _________________ life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans |

Yes, he struck lucky, Becky. A full day's play. Striaght sets for Andy...a win for Kvitova (if that was indeed Centre Court) and Stan getting knocked out.
And possibly best of all, a break for rain that was so short, that Sir Cliff didn't get to serenade the punters. _________________ life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans |

Am I the only one who enjoyed that,at the time?
Rotten luck for Andy. I feel sure a fit Andy would have beaten Querry. No Djokovic either.
I have to say I have never been Federer's biggest fan ..it was the blazer that finally decided me .....but I have to admit I was happy to see him win today. He works so hard, alongside having a natural talent, you can't help but admire him.
We have Jo to look forward to tomorrow.

I had a video of it which I think I copied to a DVD but heaven knows where it went to!
Did you hear Ken Bruce from Wimbledon this morning? I missed most of it but loved hearing a bit of the old theme tune of the Wimbledon coverage right at the end. They never play it now though
