...talked about today on the Jeremy Vine (hosted by VF) programme today.

The number of people in Britain caught driving while already banned has increased by 7.5%, according to figures obtained by BBC Radio 5 live.

Some 14,500 people were caught driving without a licence last year, Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency data shows.

In total, 109,660 motorists were banned from driving, with the youngest being 12 and the oldest 94.

One chief constable said she was "very concerned" about the number of people disregarding driving bans.

One example included a motorist who was caught driving while banned four times in 12 months.

The same person was also convicted for failing to stop and driving without insurance at least three times.

In my world if you're banned..you're banned..if you don't have a driving license you don't drive. Obviously there are a lot of people out there who just disregard these facts!

Well the situation is worrying but hardly surprising when you consider that any foreign European criminal can currently wander into Britain and drive on our roads with complete impunity

Add to that the fact that most native British youngsters have little possibility of any decent future because foreigners are preferred for even the most menial jobs so they have little to lose by commiting crimes on our roads of the kind you mention

On top of all that we live in a society which when I was young used to be Christian based which taught people from a very early age the concept of right and wrong but sadly the liberal dogooders have now replaced that with a multi cultural mish mash where basically anything goes and if anyone dares to challenge the status quo they are accused of being racist and taken to the European Court of Human Rights

I really can't say I'm that surprised Sad

The main problem seems to be Magistrates handing out ridiculously soft sentences. There was a much publicised case recently where a mother and three children were all killed last summer near Newbury in Berkshire by a Lithuanian (I think) lorry driver who was scrolling through the music on his phone for 30 seconds instead of looking at the road ahead.
He already had several serious driving convictions but each time was given a slap on the wrist.
The magistrates have got blood on their hands. Twisted Evil

Yes Schiz - there was also another case in Rochdale a couple of years ago when a failed asylum seeker drove without a licence or insurance and killed a young girl without even stopping

The Government wants to deport him but apparently so long as we are part of the EU they can't because he has a child born in this country and the European Court would outlaw any such action

As soon as Brexit actually happens which for me can't be a day too soon this guy needs to be put on a plane right away or even better dumped on a raft in the middle of the Atlantic Very Happy

I agree Ruddles. The sooner Brexit takes effect the better.

As things stand, he has a right to a family life in the UK because he has a child born here. It wouldn't occur to the idiotic unelected buffoons that the scumbag could always take his child back to his home country with him.

The problem with dumping him in a raft is that he'd float back here again.
