I was never the biggest fan of Morse so wasn't too bothered about watching Endeavour when it started a couple of years ago. Despite misgivings I thought I'd give it a go and quickly became a fan. Shaun Evans is perfect as the young Morse ... I warmed to him near enough straight away unlike the elder Morse who was a grumpy so and so...I always felt sorry for poor Lewis.

John Thaw's daughter Abigail plays a journalist in the new series ...it must have been a daunting enough prospect for Shaun Evans taking on this role without having his daughter playing opposite him in it

I'm hooked on this Morse and can see him gracing our screens for a long time to come...if he so wishes.

We've enjoyed it too Becky. I hope there are plenty of stories to make it run for ages yet.

I noticed Abigail Thaw in the credits last night for the first time. I think she was in the first series at least once.

I've never watched a whole episode of Morse, as I couldn't get past the fact that I was watching Jack Regan. Nor Kavanagh QC, but I did watch Goodnight Mr Tom.

But I watched and very much enjoyed the first series of Endeavour, and have this one on series record. Very enjoyable pairing of Shaun Evans as the young DC Morse and Roger Allam as DI Fred Thursday.

What a terrific episode to end this series on...it had me in tears at times.

I'm going to really miss this on a Sunday evening.

Thursday (what a wonderful speaking voice Roger Allam has)and Morse are far too good a pair to split so they better not be for the next series!Twisted Evil

Take a bow whoever cast Shaun Evans for this

A nice link with Endeavour reciting some of Alfred Edward Housman's poem .."How Clear, How Lovely Bright" that has the words Remorseful Day in it which was the title of the last episode of Morse with John Thaw.

How clear, how lovely bright,
How beautiful to sight
Those beams of morning play;
How heaven laughs out with glee
Where, like a bird set free,
Up from the eastern sea
Soars the delightful day.

To-day I shall be strong,
No more shall yield to wrong,
Shall squander life no more;
Days lost, I know not how,
I shall retrieve them now;
Now I shall keep the vow
I never kept before.

Ensanguining the skies
How heavily it dies
Into the west away;
Past touch and sight and sound
Not further to be found,
How hopeless under ground
Falls the remorseful day.

Alfred Edward Housman.

Helen mentioned Endeavour on her Montalbano thread and it reminded me that a new series of it starts on Sunday. Smile

I'm looking forward to both!

I hadn't realised there was a new series starting this coming week Becky, but just read Radio Times and found it! There are quite a few others as well.

Looking forward to it!

The fourth series started tonight! Cool

This could run and run as long as 'Thursday' and 'Morse' want it to, I would think.

An excellent partnership.

I've really enjoyed this series Becky. We just caught up with the last episode and I felt it somehow gave some thought into Morse's later character.

Looking forward to the next series!

Me too,Helen, on both counts.Smile

I read the other day that there is to be a series about a young Jane Tennison (Prime Suspect) starting on March the 2nd.

Prime Suspect 1973 introduces viewers to a young Jane Tennison, a probationary police officer who is a world away from the hardened DI that Helen Mirren brought to ITV in the 1990s.

http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2017-02-22/who-is-stefanie-martini-meet-the-star-of-prime-suspect-1973

I'll give it a whirl.

The next series of Endeavour has been extended to 6 feature-length episodes. Which is great news.

As for Prime Suspect 1973 - Lynda La Plante has disowned it, but I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing!

Another very enjoyable series of Endeavour with a particularly satisfying last episode.

The good news is it'll be back next year..

I really enjoyed this series as well Becky. It's interesting to see how it will all come together for when the Morse series began. Did you recognise the flat that he will buy? I'll be sad when they catch up in a way.

I was never a big Morse fan,Helen, so didn't watch all of them, but I did guess the significance of the flat.

I suppose they are almost up to the time that 'Morse' began.

A great opening episode to this last series of Endeavour. 'Mind how you go'

I just love these characters and will be very sorry to see the last of them.

Perhaps Strange will get his own spin off series? Smile
