I was listening to the radio in bed when the fiasco happened with the Oscar mix up. I was hoping that Hidden Figures would be named in it place...It wasn't.

I saw Hidden Figures the other week and thought it a brilliant film of a true story.

Starring: Janelle Monáe, Kevin Costner, Octavia Spencer, Taraji P. Henson and Kirsten Dunst

As the United States raced against Russia to put a man in space, NASA found untapped talent in a group of African-American female mathematicians that served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in U.S. history. Based on the unbelievably true life stories of three of these women, known as "human computers", we follow these women as they quickly rose the ranks of NASA alongside many of history's greatest minds specifically tasked with calculating the momentous launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit, and guaranteeing his safe return. Dorothy Vaughn, Mary Jackson, and Katherine Johnson crossed all gender, race, and professional lines while their brilliance and desire to dream big, beyond anything ever accomplished before by the human race, firmly cemented them in U.S. history as true American heroes.

It was the best Oscar ceremony for years. The ending just added to the fun!

As for Hidden Figures - yes, it's excellent. I don't really fancy seeing Moonlight, seems a little bit too right-on for me, but this film was educational without being preachy or patronising.

The two people who were responsible for the mix up have been banished, never to darken the doorsteps of the Oscars ever again! Twisted Evil

I'll wait for Moonlight to come to the small screen.

Quite right too! If that were my job, I'd be sat with the envelopes all day and obsessively checking them. I wouldn't walk the red carpet, tweet selfies with the winners or do a pre-show interview about how it's never gone wrong in 88 years!

The pair are having to have bodyguards after receiving death threats over this fiasco

There are some weirdos out there.

It's a mix up over two films for goodness sake!

I watched Moonlight the other week. It's a bit grim in parts but well worth a watch. Just a pity Mahershala Ali, who won Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for his portrayal as Juan, wasn't in it longer. He was excellent.

Loved seeing this news this morning....and wonderful that Katherine, at 99, has lived to see the day. Cool

'Human computer’ Katherine Johnson opens Nasa research facility named in her honour
The 99-year-old, a central character in the hit film Hidden Figures, played a key role in helping the United States win the space race at a time when racist laws were still widespread in her country.

The maths involved in the orbital mission was highly complex and the computers of the day were prone to technical hiccups.

So as astronaut John Glenn was going through the preflight checklist – upon which his life depended – he insisted that Ms Johnson double check the calculations.

“If she says they’re good,” Ms Johnson remembered Mr Glenn saying, “then I’m ready to go.”
