One of the biggest influences in pop/rock history, even more than Elvis, as The Beatles and Stones will testify.

RIP

One of my favourite scenes from films is John Travolta and Uma Thurman dancing to Chuck Berry's You Never Can Tell in Pulp Fiction

And one of my favourite records from The Stones is Come On composed by Chuck.... their debut single.

Chuck Berry is a legend in music...there's no doubting that.

R.I.P

Here's another good Rolling Stones cover of a Chuck Berry track, their version of 'Carol': https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--PK3RZn9zE
I've always liked ELO's cover of 'Roll Over Beethoven.

Very sad news for me to hear... another of my heroes gone. I found him absolutely fascinating to watch, particularly in his younger days. He seemed to bring in humour to his style.. doing the splits, duck walk and his facial expressions etc.. he made me smile. I'd loved to have known him!
Many classics tracks but I think Nadine would be getting up there for me - love the lyrics to this track... "I was campaign shouting like a southern diplomat" amazing.
But, despite being banned by the Beeb, I loved My Ding-a-ling too, great, rich guitar sound. I'll miss him being around. Crying or Very sad

Without Chuck, music would have taken a completely different path. I couldn't pay him a higher compliment than that. Certainly, millions of guitarist and bands owe him so much.

That "Southern diplomat" line is such a great one, but then he wrote so many. His lyrics were so evocative and varied.

Richard Williams wrote a lovely piece in the Guardian - not least because he said something I've always thought - which is that American Graffiti was like a 2 hour Chuck Berry song.

Bless you, Chuck. Wherever you may be, I'm sure the joint is rockin'.
