.....on Radio 4

If you like Tim Vine or Sir Ken Dodd, or both of them, you might like this..

It had me giggling doing my ironing...

In this edtition, Tim Vine turns interviewer and invites his chosen guest Sir Ken Dodd into the Chain Reaction hot seat.

Chain Reaction is the talk show with a twist where one week's interviewee becomes the next week's interviewer. John Cleese was first in the hot seat back in 1991 and since then, a procession of big names from the world of comedy and entertainment including Jennifer Saunders, Jarvis Cocker and Eddie Izzard have helped continue the chain.

Tim Vine is best known for his frenetic stage shows, rammed full of rapid one liners, songs and props. He previously starred in BBC1s Not Going Out, ITV1s The Sketch Show and hosted the seminal Channel 5 quiz show Whittle.

Revered as one of Britain's funniest comedians, Ken Dodd has enjoyed a professional career spanning over 60 years during which he has received numerous awards and accolades. Ken Dodd was made Sir Ken in the 2017 New Year's Honours List; and is a comedian of legendary status who has been entertaining audiences for a lifetime of happiness and laughter.

Recorded at the Bluecoat in Liverpool, Tim talks to Ken about his long career, the length of his live shows, and performs a Liverpudlian version of Hamlet...

Thanks for the heads up on this Becky -I'll certainly give it a listen

I've met Ken Dodd twice in my life - first when I was ten years old and my dad who was Chairman of fund raising for the new Church hall in St Helens invited him to officially open the building and then again in 2002 when we were both in reception in a well known legal office in Liverpool waiting for our respective appointments

He's a man who is exactly the same in ordinary life as he is when performing on stage - just a man whose always interesting and amusing to listen to and I recently went to see his show in Warrington where the management virtually had to throw him off stage after almost four hours - talk about value for money Shocked

As for Tim Vine I much prefer him to his rather unintelligent and over dramatic brother and to me he's probably the only genuinely funny comedian in this sad era for comedy which is hamstrung by over the top political correctness Rolling Eyes

Sounds like it should be a really classic conversation Very Happy

To be honest I don't know Becky - it was in the office of E Rex Makin a very famous firm in Liverpool - Rex - or Sexy Rexy - as he was known always used to bragg that he was solicitor to The Beatles but it was actually in the days before they became famous Smile

Getting back to good old Ken I do remember in a conversation of about ten minutes he must have come up with at least a dozen amusing lines including one when he stated that one mediocre accountant was worth at least ten top solicitors Smile

I applied to tickets for this show and was gutted when I didn't get any. I love Tim Vine, and Ken Dodd is a legend. Doddy is actually "Honorable Vice President" of the theatre I run never comes to committee meetings, the lazy sod.
