Just heard on the 8pm news that Brian died this morning.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-39541162

Very sad news even though we had all been expecting it since the faux pas earlier this week.

My earliest memory was of him presenting Saturday Club and Easy Beat which my parents listened to then as I 'got into' the Beatles, I listened myself.

Thank Your Lucky Stars was also a 'must watch show' every Saturday night on ITV.

RIP Brian and thank you for all the shows that you presented.

H

Indeed a very sad day for all true music fans and especially those of us who love sixties music

I remember those great shows you mention Helen although I never really watched the TV series but let's not forget that Brian fronted SOTS for 27 years which almost a third of his life and what a great job he did for all those years

On another thread I did raise the point about whether the fact of the BBC taking away his job might have sad results and whilst no doubt the medical evidence will emerge in due course I still think it's very likely to have been a contributory factor

Such a sad day for many of us on here I think Sad

A sad day. And fitting that he passed on a Saturday morning. I remember all of those shows, too, especially Saturday Club. It's worth getting a second hand copy of the Beatles at the BBC, just to relive a bit of it.

And Thank Your Lucky Stars, with "Oi'll give it foive" Janice.

This is very sad news. R.I.P. Brian, you will not be forgotten by those of us who have enjoyed your shows over the years.

After the awful mix up earlier on in the week the sad news that Brian has died does not, sadly, come as a shock.Sad

I loved Saturday Club. We (youngsters) didn't get much of the music we loved on the radio back then, like nowadays, so it was all the more special.

Brian was SOTS and I miss him every week. I was looking forward to the programmes he was going to make for Radio 2.

He will be much missed.

RIP Brian and thanks for all the pleasure you gave over the years.

As others have said, not entirely unexpected but a very sad loss just the same. Along with Desmond we've lost two proper radio broadcasters. Saturday mornings just aren't the same any more

Goodbye 'old mate'

Thank Your Lucky Stars introduced me to pop music back in 1963, seeing new groups like The Beatles, the rest is history.

And, yes, Saturday mornings on Radio 2 are rather empty now Sad

SOTS as we knew it really is a loss to Saturday mornings.

I can vaguely remember Keith Fordyce presenting it on a odd time I was at my Mum's. I didn't listen to Radio 2 yet in those days!
