Some members will recall Pirate Radio Essex being on air in 2007 and a lot of fun had as we listened and posted on here!

Well it will be back for the 50th anniversary broadcasting from LV18, 12th to 14th
August 2017, with Roger Day, Tom Edwards, Norman St John, Keith
Skues, Johnny Walker.

I'm sure we'll hear more about it nearer the time but an early heads up.

Oh yes!! That ten years has flown by frighteningly quickly... Crying or Very sad

It'll be bitter sweet for me, seeing Dave Cash won't be there this time - I used to enjoy his weekly chart programme on Radio Kent, but I'm sure he'll get a mention from JW. Looking forward to this. Thanks again, Helen.

I'm thinking there may be some others from those fabulous broadcasts from 10 years ago who may not be around. I hope they'll be mentioned.

Can't believe it's 10 years ago either, quite frightening. Shocked

I believe Ed Stewart was part of the 2007 broadcasts. He was the first of many celebs to die last year. Yes it's scary how quickly time has gone by. It must be 10 years since the R2 message boards were closed down.

Not nit picking.Helen, (honest Smile ) but I think that was on one of the other forums...at least that's what my memory ( Rolling Eyes ) tells me.

Wherever we were it was great fun.

You know I'm wondering but I remember being in trouble from someone for spending my time posting about the Pirates on here, rather than on 'our own board'........ No names mentioned Wink Wink

Does anyone know how we can actually listen to this great coverage - is it on mainstream radio or online or indeed a pop up station? - as I missed it the first time round I simply don't know Embarassed

Did you mean the Coffee Bar, and what was the JV board LEE? I think they shut 10 or more years ago which was why we came here and to Jezzas but there were still a couple left until shut as Becky mentions.

I see his widow is scattering Dave Cash's ashes from Ha'penny Pier tomorrow.

Nothing as yet available on that site, Helen, but I'll keep trying.

A couple of tweets from Johnnie from this morning..

Johnnie Walker‏ @piratejw 22m22 minutes ago

Farewell Dave Cash. A very moving moment as pirate fans and wife Sarah say goodbye to a great deejay.

Johnnie Walker‏ @piratejw 6m6 minutes ago

Big thanks to David Burrows and the crew of the Harwich lifeboat for the help in scattering Dave Cash's ashes at LV18

Becky it was me! Feeling quite emotional as I listen. Remembering when we all listened 10 years ago. It should all be on Radio Essex listen again.

I think that this will be the last one as there are so few of them left now. I bet they'll have a fabulous time at their party in London tonight, it was mentioned this morning.

I heard a bit yesterday and the rest today. You got in quick, H!!

It did have the feeling that this was the last hurrah, which made it poignant in many ways. But as long as Johnnie is soldiering on - and him and Tiggy have both had their problems these past years - then you never know. But it was apparent to me, that the old pirates are so few, now Dave Cash has gone. Nevertheless, he will always be the beating heart of those unforgettable days.

Thanks for those pics, Becky. The sun always seems to shine on the Pirate anniversaries.

Where did all those years go..? Sad

Listened to this today...an interesting programme.

The First Pirate

Les Woodland tells the story of Captain Plugge, founder of Radio Normandie, the first station to take on the BBC.
