The appalling terrorist attack on London Bridge late last evening shows the danger of recording shows. Whilst the Manchester attack was handled well by all DJ's and producers who clearly had reviewed the tracks played the same situation was not repeated today. Despite the trite " The following programme was recorded before todays terrorist attack in London " ( or similar ) what excuse would the BBC like to offer for playing McGuinness Flints " When I am dead and gone" during the Johnnie Walker show ? Not much sympathy for bereaved relatives there if they were listening. Surely the Duty Manager could have arranged for a different track to be slotted in ? I hope JW makes an apology during his next live show. The BBC clearly will not.

Looking at things from another angle one could argue that to change the playlist actually amounts to allowing these evil terrorists to win so I'm not sure I'm in favour of any changes - although of course we all have the greatest sympathy for all those affected by these dreadful events

It's a tricky situation for the BBC and perhaps they decided that putting out the statement was a compromise which would keep everyone happy - and in the end it kept nobody happy Sad

All this just shows how many weekend shows are pre-recorded, when the Beeb pretend they are live.
Today, Steve Wright's Sunday Love Songs was prefixed with the usual 'this show was recorded before last night's atrocity', as was JW's SOT70s, as was Paul O'Grady's show. Only Richard Madeley was 'live'.

As said above, surely someone is available to edit the music as appropriate. 'When I'm Dead And Gone' is an excellent song but entirely inappropriate.

I think I must have dozed off in the sun as I didn't notice that track being played in JW's show today. Confused

As Schiz says 'When I'm Dead And Gone'is a superb track and one of my favourites of the seventies and I've often wondered why it is so rarely played but perhaps the reason is quite obvious

After all whenever that track is played there's always going to be someone who has maybe just lost their spouse or even a child - or perhaps a close family member who had died in a car crash - and for them the playing of the track might cause distress so looking at the situation logically there is probably never going to be any time when it's safe to play it - a great shame in my opinion but I suppose understandable Sad

I don't think there should have been any changes either. Also it doesn't bother me that shows are pre recorded, I'd rather have them than the souless 'Playlist' shows that are on during the night time now.

I also think that by altering music would be giving in. Whatever they did would be wrong to someone.

I was somewhat annoyed that regular R2 shows were off air tonight due to the concert in Manchester which was aired on 5 Live as well as Radio 2. Surely one was enough as it was on TV as well. Smooth also carried it live.

I think it's great the Manchester Concert was on Radio 2 - just as it should be. This is the sort of thing the BBC excels at delivering, and Radio 2 was the home for it. I would imagine the 5 Live coverage was slightly different, just as BBC Lancashire covered it themselves too. Perhaps that is too much, but there are many motivations for the concert and many angles to cover.

I do wonder how many people are wasting money texting in to shows for shout-outs and requests that are never going to be read. I mean, O'Grady's usually live and is full of listener interaction. Must be a fortune being wasted.
