Rhinestone Cowboy singer Glen Campbell has died at the age of 81 after "a long and courageous battle" with Alzheimer's disease, his family said.

"It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather," their statement said.

Always a favourite of mine with that lovely voice of his singing those lovely songs.

Really sad tonight hearing this news.

RIP Glen

A sad loss of a truly classic country artist - not like the so called country 'stars' foisted on us these days Mad

Glen was a proper country singer who produced some great tracks which will live on for ever

RIP Glen - you're a true legend Smile

Yes a sad loss but sadly no surprise in view of his illness.

My favourite is By The Time I Get To Phoenix, lovely lyrics. I will be playing his Greatest Hits CD in the car tomorrow.

Very sad news last night. I loved so many of his songs, it's hard to pick a favourite.

Always love to hear his records. Lovely voice and personality. On The One Show this evening I was very taken with the young Irish country singer Nathan Carter who said he was inspired by Glen Campbell and includes a number of his songs in his act. He has a nice voice and an easy personality too.
RIP Glen.

I guess it's the age I've reached that so many people that I've grown up listening to / watched on radio & TV have now passed on, Glen Campbell being the latest. As has already been said, not surprising seeing as how he had been suffering from alzheimers, but none the less very sad news.
For me, Kudos must go to Trevor Nelson for not going for one of the obvious big hits. The playlist shows 'Country Boy (You Got Your Feet In L.A.)'. I'll have to put this into You Tube to hear it as I didn't hear today's show.

BBC 4 repeated the Glen documentray last night, from a couple of years ago. Very highly recommended, if you haven't seen it before, or even if you have.

Fantastic guitarist and singer. Jimmy Webb posted a very emotional and heartfelt tribute on his FB page last week. And no wonder, given the great partnership they enjoyed.

Webb was also interviewed on BBC Radio 4's The Last Word, which was cool.
