I enjoyed the Cliff episode too. People sneer at it but he didn't volunteer. He was called into the organisers' office and asked if he could possibly provide some entertainment as the weather was so horrendous. He was a good sport and it was great to see several players joining in.

I hope Murray can get get sorted out without too much drama. I always love to watch Federer and I would love him to win.

It's only a clip at around 2h 29m. It's called 'Sporting Occasion', Alan Titchmarsh used to play it every year around this time but alas no more.......

You Tube link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYVDI522hgo

It could be a minute before you get to the part that you recognise.

It would be nice it they could play it in full at the end on Sunday as they used to......

H

PS let the You Tube continue and you'll hear another long lost radio memory (my Grandpa always listened!).

They still play that theme tune (in the football season)before Sportsweek on 5 Live on a Saturday evening. When I hear it I feel as if I have stepped back 50 years or so...love it!

I seldom miss the music to the football results on Saturdays at five on Five. It wouldn't be Saturday (or football) without it. Isn't the Wimbers tune the same one it's always been? I'm not familiar with the Sporting Occasion..ah, just recognised a little piece of it. It is the same. I can remember when Billie Jean King was Miss Moffatt!

I wasn't denigrating Sir Cliff of Dover, either. And certainly not sneering at him. No, it was meant to be a humourous aside, to lower the boredom factor in my post. Why, I'll wager that I am the only one on here, who actually bought Congratulations, in 1968. I've only recently got over him only coming second to La La La.

I could be a real anorak and tell you what the b-side was, but that'd be a step too far. Talking of which, that funny little dance he did on the Eurovision to that, was probably the only one I could do as a kid, apart from the Twist.

So I won't tell you, but if you cllick this link, you'll find out...new balls, please.

I never knew his official title...thanks! Wink

I remember Little Miss Moffatt as well.

Well I didn't buy Congratulations and would never have remembered who won the Eurovision that year.

Boris B was saying this afternoon, watching Federer, that he remembered him being a bit of a brat. Andrew Castle replied that his parents warned him about his behaviour on court and said they would not come with him anymore if he didn't change his ways..he was showing them up.. Shocked

Perhaps next year for Jo..

Just seen that Andy Murray has withdrawn from the US Open due to that hip problem. So no Murray, or Djokovic or Wawrinka. I hope Marin Cilic does really well to make up for losing the Wimbledon Final against Federer when that huge blister made it so painful for him to play his best.

Fingers crossed for Andy that his hip is something that can be healed.

I'm sorry to see Maria Sharapova has been given a wild card for the tournament. Rolling Eyes

Johanna Konta is out of the US Open to an unseeded Serb...Aleksandra Krunic. Very disappointing for her and us.

That was a disappointing Jo show but Kyle Edmund did well beating seeded Robin Haase in 3 sets.

Oh dear, poor Kyle Sad . I hope that neck problem isn't serious. It must have been so painful.

It is just as well we are out of the Davis Cup this year what with Andy's hip, Kyle's neck and Dan banned!

I stayed up until the early hours watching del Potro pull off that extraordinary win over Dominic Thiem. He will now face Federer in the semis - I can't back both of them Sad.

Reported that Andy will 'most likely' miss the rest of the season because of his ongoing hip injury. Sad

Yes, I do hope Andy's hip problem can be sorted out.

I stayed up until 5am this morning watching the terrific match between del Potro and Federer. I was delighted for Delpo and if he hadn't had all those wrist problems and operations I am sure he would have been one of the Big Five with Federer, Nadal, Djokovic and Murray. He has done so well in making adjustments to his game and deserves all success. A lovely chap too, by all accounts, and liked by the other players.

Oh well, I stayed up until 4am to see del Potro being beaten by Nadal Sad. I shall not be tempted to have another late night to see the Final on Sunday which is just as well as I have a Pilates class to go to at 9am on Monday.

I haven't done any late night/early morning viewing of this tournament,Eileen.

The final of the mixed doubles is on at a much more civilised (over here that is) time.

Hingis and Murray romped through the first set of it, 6-1, but Chan and Venus have settled down in the second set and have broken the serve of Hingis and Murray.

I can't find coverage of it on any radio station...lucky for me I have found a stream on-line.

You'd think the BBC would put it on 5 Live Sports Extra.
