I would much prefer Gary Davies as regular presenter on the afternoon show
To me SW fronts a very dated show which has become totally boring to listen to possibly with the exception of the 'oldies' - but Gary includes that feature anyway rebranding it as the 'Oldies In The Middle'
For me Radio One was good in the eighties before Matthew Bannister wreaked havoc with the station and really there aren't that many eighties presenters from Radio One on Radio 2 at present - Chris Evans Sara Cox and Simon Mayo were all nineties so really currently only SW and the occasional stand in
I'd like to see more former eighties presenters back on the BBC including Simon Bates and Janice Long _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

From the mid 80s I'd switched selectively to Radio 2 (R1 at weekends oddly though) and I worked shifts or daytime with train commuting so didn't hear a lot but wasn't keen on a lot of the 80s people. 90s I was definitely R2.
Wouldn't mind Janice Long back but it depends what type of show she would have.
It's alright saying oh Evans is off so it's safe to switch on. It's not as the show is no longer the breakfast show I would want to listen to.

I'd imagine that it would be something like the show she does for BBC Radio Wales between 7:00 - 10:00pm Monday - Thursday. Radio 2's loss is definitely Radio Wales' gain! _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

I just noticed that it's exactly a year since the last post on this thread, so high time it was resurrected, yet again.
Full of cold and cough, but the sun is shining and Sounds of the Sixties is on listen again.
I sometimes marvel at Tone's cheeriness at such an early hour. The man is truly a legend. He's now going out on tour! I saw he was appearing at my local theatre, when I got the booklet a few months ago, but baulked at paying over £30 for the privilege.
He has a band as well, so could well be entertaining the faithful with'Chop Chop Chop' and other standards. Good on him.
Wot, no gripes? Yes. He should be on more! _________________ life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans |

Just read these comments in the Culture section of today's Sunday Times.
From the You Say section and covering 2 days (there are max 3 comments in the small box on each days schedules).
"Who murdered Radio 2? With one or two exceptions it is reduced to a third rate local station."
"Look on the bright side, at least Zoe Ball won't be standing in for Ken Bruce when he is on a break. I now listen to Radio Wales in the mornings."
"Where did the BBC find Rylan Clark-Neal? Can they send him back please"
And lastly
"The demise of the 5-7pm Radio 2 slot. Oh, Simon Mayo, wherefore art thou?
Another programm to switch off. I can't bear it any longer."
All spot on and exactly my thoughts so it was worth typing them out!
I don't think I've seen so many negative comments in one place before.

I completely agree Helen. The only show I put Radio 2 on for now is Sounds of the Seventies. Once upon a time it was on all day in every room, happy days!
Correction..I do catch up Pick of the Pops if there is a year I would like to hear. _________________ Pirate Johnnie Walker played my request on 11 April 2009 |

I really only listen to SOT70s and POTP (especially mid 60s till early 80s). And Lisa Tarbuck for some reason.
Would love to listen to SOT60s but it's too early! (Deliberately relegated to that spot by idiotic management who openly admit to expunging 60s/70s music in a futile attempt to gain younger listeners). |

"Who murdered Radio 2?"
It seems to me the demise really began when one Lesley Douglas took over control of Radio 2 (and also 6 music) in the mid 2000s and began her own interpretation of the Matthew Bannister Radio 1 escapade. Traditional & knowledgable music DJs were replaced by celebs who's first love was really on the stage or TV either cracking jokes or acting, as opposed to playing at being radio DJs. Lesley may have gone, but sadly those who have since taken over have more or less continued in the same way. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |
