I'm afraid I've sad news for my first post since the board returned.
Catharina known here as FLYBYNIGHT left us on 23rd April. We met away from here and corresponded very regularly almost up to the end. Her funeral was last Thursday and I was able to watch via a streaming service.
She was a contributer on the Radio 2 boards, especially the Coffee Bar. She was fun person and a real lady who will be missed.
RIP Fly.

PS I forgot my H, it's been so long. _________________ 88 - 91 FM this is Radio 2 from the BBC!

Fly was a delightful woman with a delicious sense of humour.
I knew she was seriously ill but it's still very sad to hear of her death.
R.I.P Fly. x
Thanks for letting us know, Helen. |

Very sad news indeed. I never met her in person, but did exchange messages on the R2 message boards & other forums and also a microsoft instant chat thingy (don't know the official term for it) and also exchanged E-mails from time to time.
My sincere condolences to her family & everyone else affected. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

What sad news, Helen. I've been emailing Catharina for many years and guessed that she'd gone. The last email she sent me, on 2nd Feb, she was fast losing her independence due to her illness. Not long after, I was in bed ill with a virus one Saturday evening, when the phone rang. I didn't get out of bed to answer it, but when I did, it was either caller witheld or unknown. I just had this feeling that it was either her, or her friend Jo, ringing to say she'd had to go in a home or a hospital. I'll never know.
I do know that she was ready to go, as she'd lost all of her independence, but to be independent up until the very last stages of her life....and a very full life she led. A wonderful, intelligent, witty and funny woman, who I have been constantly thinking about and will always remember. Especially every time there's a Formula One race on, as she was so passionate about it. And my Mum died on the same date, 33 years ago, so I could never forget.
So goodbye Catharina, darling woman. It was a pleasure and a privilege.
She loved this song....and lived up to the sentiment. I think it may have been the first song she remembered from when she met Len, who was a soldier in the British Army. They fell in love and married when they met while The Allies were in her home town of Eindhoven.
Take it away, Bing and The Andrews Sisters...

Raver she was ready to go. We spoke on the phone between Christmas and New Year and she was ready. We spoke in late February and she was in much better spirit so perhaps the season and being on her own was playing its part. My last email from her was mid March around the time this board went down. So 2 things disappearing in close proximity made me feel quite bereft.
She lived for Formula 1 during the season, especially when it came from Monaco where she once attended with Len who was in the motor trade.
Catharina went into a home 30th March and from what I understand was happy there.
You'll appreciate this I'm sure when I tell you the closing music at her funeral was 'Wish Me Luck'! I'm not sure who the singer was, Gracie Fields perhaps? Typical I'm sure you'll agree.
