An enjoyable programme this week with the popular radio critic.

One of her choices was the sublime Under Milk Wood,Dylan Thomas's play for voices, with Richard Burton leading the cast.

Another was Coronation Scot, the theme tune to Paul Temple. I have listened to a fair few of those on Radio 4 Extra. Very dated now but they still have an appeal..

Gillian Reynolds spent 42 years as the radio critic of the Daily Telegraph before she was headhunted by the Sunday Times at the age of 82. Born into a working class family in Liverpool, her mother ran a market stall and her father was a seaman, but also a gambler. Her mother was determined to ensure that Gillian had a good education, and she was the first in her family to go to a grammar school. She went on to study English at Oxford.

Thank you for the reminder, I heard this trailed and I thought it would be a good listen. I think it gets repeated on Friday so I will try to catch it then.

I heard some of it while I was driving so thanks for the reminder, Becky. Is she really 82? I can hardly believe that!
