I think Johnnie played Yellow River a few weeks ago. Agree it's a great track!

I was delighted to hear Sibelius on Jeremy Vine's show. Reminded me of the days when you'd hear many different styles of music during daytime. Those were the days! |

My track of yesterday was 'Overkill' by Motorhead on Drivetime. It makes a nice change from the usual 'Ace Of Spades'. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

Completely agree with the comments in all of the last three posts - it's been an unusually good week for the quality of music on the network _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

When was that Ian I must have missed it. There was a concert on R3 last night I think.

It was the first choice of What Makes Us Human guest Dominic Lawson. Apart from being a fan of the Sibelius it was also the theme from ITV's This Week, which was something that got him interested in current affairs.
Typically, this piece of music is not listed on Jeremy Vine's playlist page. |

I missed the first bit of that Ian. Strangely it was that theme that got me interested in current affairs as well although I was probably too young to realize any of the consequences.
I also noticed it was missing from the playlist as well as I checked it first after reading your post!

Just as it should be,Helen. When we're young life should be carefree and happy. Enough time when we're older to start thinking of consequences to the news we hear. |

Turned on the radio this morning to hear Des Lynam choosing A Thing Called Love by Johnny Cash as one of the Tracks of his Years...love it...it's my track of the day. Having a look back to yesterday's programme I see he chose Make Someone Happy (Jimmy Durante) as another of his tracks. That would have been my track for yesterday!
I must remember to catch the rest of his choices over the coming week. |

Cheating a bit with this one....I listened again to Des Lynan's tracks (from earlier in the week) this morning and just before (or just after) this song was played...haven't heard it for ages...my track for today..

Also heard via 'listen again', the first track on Huey Morgan's show 'Dirty Diana' by Michael Jackson. Very seldom played. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

Heard yesterday on Sounds Of The 70s 'Crackerbox Palace' by George Harrison. As Paul Gambaccini would say, a hit 'only in America'.
And just playing on today's Drivetime show, 'Roam' by The B52s. I've always liked this better than 'Love Shack'. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

Lovely George would have been 75 on the 25th of this month. |

Coincidentally I was up in Liverpool for four days last week and did a Beatles tour. We stopped off at George's birthplace at 12 Arnold Grove.
We were told that he was actually born at 11.30 pm on the 24th of Feb but by the time the midwife had done her paperwork it was about 12.30 am on the 25th so that was the date recorded as his birthday! |

Thanks for that,Schiz. I keep promising myself a Beatles tour...just never seem to get round to it.
A while ago I was talking to a friend of my son ...a big Beatles fan..and he was telling me a story about his Mum...another big fan of the lads. When she was a youngster in Liverpool her and some friends were outside of George's house hoping for a glimpse of him ....turns out he wasn't in. Don't know how it happened but she broke the heel on her stiletto shoe and George's Dad came out, took her inside, and mended it! He then gave her a signed photo of George... |

A day late but heard this track on Wednesday's Drivetime (can't believe it's now gone in its original format ) and thought it's decades since I heard it.
The track - Dr Robert from the Beatles.

From yesterday's Bryan Adams Rocks! Which I only caught some of, but this came on as I set out in the car.
From Roxy Music's unforgettable first album of the same name, the opening track...

Not heard Tony yet Becky, but Liza is just playing Billy J Kramer's Bad To Me which I haven't heard in ages, so that's my track for today.

Yes, I heard it too. Don't think I've heard it since it came out in 63/64?
Come to think of it I don't think I've heard anything by Billy J Kramer. Little Children is a classic and should get more airplay. From A Window was good, and I preferred his version of Do You Want To Know A Secret to the Beatles' one. |

I agree about Do You Want To Know A Secret Schiz. Liza often plays Beatles stuff, I like to think because of her Dad's connection to them. Speaking Jimmy, I enjoyed seeing his part of the TV show about the history of the London Palladium last week. I only saw from Jimmy's bit onwards.

I would venture to suggest that was because George sang it...he wasn't the greatest vocalist at the time, was he?
I remember vividly, watching Grandstand, when David Coleman interviewed the lads, around the time of the first Clay/Liston fight, when John piped up with 'Liston, do you want to know a secret?', which tickled me then, as it does now...easily pleased.
No YT footage, sadly, but a transcript of it is...

Mine for today has to be You from Randy Edelman, Johnnie is playing it right now. I can't remember when I last heard it.
I also like Karen Carpenter's version.

I first heard in by the Carpenter on their album 'A Kind Of Hush' and then later heard Randy's own version as he wrote the song.

Track to the day for me today is Donovan's Jennifer Juniper, again absolutely ages since I heard it and it. Played on Liza's show tonight.

I haven't listened to Liza's show for a few weeks. Unforgivable! Must rectify that, this week. Love Jennifer Juniper, along with many others of Donovan's songs.
Caught a nice piece of JW's show yesterday, inbetween football matches. Great chat with Ian Hunter, who is also a big favourite of mine. All The Young Dudes just never ages. _________________ life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans |

It certainly sounds the best, as it was recorded on eight-track, as opposed to the four track recordings of the other Fab albums.
I've bought this twice on vinyl album, once on CD and one CD was bought for me. Even after all this time, I expect a couple of tracks (oh Darling and Octopus Garden) to 'jump' as they did on the first one I bought, from my friend Jon's mum's Freeman's catalogue..37/6d at 2/6d every week. _________________ life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans |

I love that song Becky, though only became aware of it about twenty years ago. I have since bought the single.
Funnily enough TB played it on his golden hour on Friday last week. He obviously likes it! |
