Wishing all of our entrants to Queens good luck today!

Here's hoping Andy's injury problems are behind him..

I am greatly enjoying the tennis this week. That was a good match between Cilic and Kyrgios today, also Djokovic and Chardy and have just seen Jamie and Bruno come through in the doubles. Looking forward to the finals tomorrow.

My focus has been on the football this week,Eileen, but have caught the odd game or two of tennis. Saw Novak lose a point for touching the net. I would have made a point of watching Andy if he had got any further.

I'm really happy to see that Jamie and Bruno are in the final.I will try to catch some of that.

There are no football fans in this house, Becky, so I have watched most of the tennis that I wanted to see. I might have a brief look at how England is doing later Wink

The final between Cilic and Djokovic was gripping with some wonderful shots from both. I am delighted Cilic won but am pleased to see Djokovic getting back to his old form. The doubles final was disappointing for Jamie and Bruno but Kontinen and Peers are a likeable pair so well done them.

Very well, as it turned out,Eileen!! Very Happy

Murray is up a set against Wawrinka,at Eastbourne, as I type. 5-3 in the second set.

Murray won and is on the front page of the Telegraph today Very Happy.

Wimbledon Qualifiers:
It was good to see Dan Evans playing so well yesterday. Provided he continues to win his matches, he will have played himself in ready for the championship, which could be more beneficial than if he had been given a wild card.

I heard Sam Smith say today that people don't usually come back from the kind of injury Andy had/has. Here's hoping she's wrong in this instance.

And it seems very odd to me that while we can watch the women's event at Eastbourne on the BBC, we can't do the same for the men's event as they don't have the rights to it!

I think it's on Eurosport Becky. I must admit I always thought Eastbourne was a women's only event, probably because it's not on BBC!

I looked on Eurosport,Helen, and it was the women on there too. Earlier on,on BBC, they had shown a little of a recorded match with Norrie and at the top of the picture it had an Amazon Prime logo.

Looked online and found this article..

How to watch tennis in 2018: Amazon Prime enter the arena
Television rights in the UK are changing again, with Amazon picking up some huge tournaments next year, and more a year later.

You begin to wonder what will be shown on 'normal' TV in future years don't you Becky!

You do,Helen.

Long gone are the days when (sports) fans sat down, as a nation, to watch big sports events...apart from the odd few.

There was talk,a while back,of Wimbledon going from the BBC, I seem to remember. Rolling Eyes

Very happy to see Vitalia Diatchenko triumph over Maria Sharapova yesterday, with our own Edmunds,Boulter and Konta getting through their first round matches also.

It started well,Eileen..Sad .

Glad to see Kyrgios is out .. he is an ungracious oaf.

On the other hand I'm delighted to see Jamie and Bruno are still in the men's doubles. Cool

What a match that was between Federer and Anderson...wow!

Saw some of the Djovokic match...he seems to be a bit of a nowty so and so these days. Gone off him a bit.

I didn't see all of it but Anderson played really well. Today I enjoyed Jamie Murray and Victoria Azarenka's match and was glad they won!

I had a feeling Roger wouldn't win this year - especially if he had to go past 3 sets. Not sure he would have beaten Nadal or Djokovic the way they are playing.
The match between Nadal and Delpo was brilliant, especially the last set.
I do hope Nadal has enough left to beat Djokovic tomorrow. I don't like him at all.

The Isner/Anderson will be too much of a 'who can hit the biggest serve' for me.

It's a shame Jamie & Vika will be playing the GB youngsters Harriet Dart and Jay Clarke - it would have been good to have 3 Brits in the final!

Isner/Anderson into 6th hour now.

Think it would be fairer on Nadal/Djokovic if they didn't start it until tomorrow - they've been sitting round for hours waiting

What a gentleman Kevin Anderson was, talking after his win, over John Isner. He looked quite upset. Such a pity there had to be a loser.

C'mon Rafa!

And good luck to Jack!

I am back from 10 days in the Lake District but managed to see quite a lot of tennis. The semi-final between Nadal and Djokovic was just "WOW" all the way through. They pushed each other to the heights. I didn't care which of them won as I am not a fan of either, but it was great to watch.

I would have preferred Kevin Anderson to win the final. We did get an upset of sorts in the women's though.

No need,I don't think,Eileen, to ask if you had good weather up in The Lakes. Cool Was a lot of the grass scorched up there?

Hi Becky, yes it was extremely dry up in the Lakes and one reservoir I went to look at was getting a bit low and showing some of the ruined walls of the village which was demolished and drowned. So sad for the former residents.

I watched Andy's match against American McKenzie McDonald in Washington today. He won and it was good to see his form returning. His fighting spirit is undiminished!

It was such an interesting match, with Kyle up against the man who has mentored him over the last few years and has helped him so much. Glad Andy won Smile.

Andy is due to play again at around 4am our time but apparently there are thunderstorms in Washington and matches have been suspended. They are 5 hours behind the UK and they seem to play during night hours there - very strange.

I saw the start of the match Eileen but I was shattered so went to bed. I wonder if they play later because of the heat in Washington DC?

Bravo Andy! I got up at 6am to watch him win another match to reach the quarter finals in Washington D.C. He was very emotional afterwards, with the effort and the sheer relief that he is managing to get back to form after his hip surgery. It was wonderful to see him playing and moving so well again. They finished at 8am our time - 3am in the USA. They have had rain delays and the air is cooler for playing late into the night.

Yes. Sad

I saw that online. Also saw pictures of the outlines of hill forts and settlements exposed by the heatwave. Apparently soil quality today is still affected by iron age construction, so the grass on top changes colour at a different pace in the sun.

Well played Andy and you too,Eileen, getting up so early to watch him.. Very Happy

I've just read this...

Andy Murray 'may not play' Washington Open quarter-final after 3am finish...

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/tennis/45055266

Serena not playing at her best, apparently, but surely still a confidence boosting win for Johanna Konta the other day at the Silicon Valley Classic.

I was up early and saw the end of the match. It was ridculous scheduling and I don't blame Andy if he does pull out. While it's good to see him playing well again, he has got to take things at a reasonable pace.

They have Sasha Zverev scheduled to play both his singles and doubles matches at 4pm.

Absolutely agree. Andy has withdrawn from the quarter finals and who can blame him? Furthermore rain has held up play again so he would have been playing well into the early hours again.

I watched some matches in the Paris Masters and the semi final between Federer and Djokovic was just wonderful, especially the first set.

I was out on a walk yesterday and when I got home I was amazed to discover that Djokovic had lost to the young Russian Khachanov who is certainly a player to watch out for in the future. Djokovic had been suffering from flu but apparently the youngster was very impressive.
