One web page I'd planned to put on the R2ok website was a 'Radio 2 Hall of Fame' but only got as far as the template. Now, with so many Radio 2 fans in one place maybe I can ask for your nominations and put your screen name on the Hall of Fame web page next to your Radio 2 hero.

Anyway, have a look at the draft 'Hall of Fame' page with one hero entered:

http://www.r2ok.co.uk/R2_halloffame.htm

Since we have a member named Toggy Tea Slurper (who has confessed to having a Tog Calendar) maybe Toggy would like her name to be the first nominator? But I see there is a Tog thread with a few other ardent fans' names...... so, one name or all of you?

For other heros let's try this and see. Anyone wishing to be first to nominate a Radio 2 hero for the Hall of Fame should

- say so on this thread
- if you have a favorite photo, use the private message route to e-mail it to me so that our members will only see the photo when I've put it on the Hall of Fame page. Or I can find a photo.
- tell me some details of your hero's career, or why you nominate him/her, but don't worry if you can't
- some career details can be got at http://www.r2ok.co.uk/R2_timeline.htm and from other links I've placed at http://www.r2ok.co.uk/R2_BBC.htm

I suppose ANYONE who ever worked at Radio 2, as presenters, producers, newsreaders etc deserves a place in the Radio 2 Hall of Fame? It's up to you.

Laughing You'll be unsurprised to learn that I'm happy to nominate Sir Terry. Laughing

Not only do I have a Tog's calendar I also have a personally obtained signed copy of his book.
When he visited the sprawling metropolis of Milton Keynes back in October I dutifully drove nearly 50 miles to see him. Shocked Laughing It was worth it though, he was lovely.

I don't know what I'll do when he retires.

Shocked

That weirdo? She was bloody awful on Radio 2 - what was Jim Moir thinking of when he hired her? I didn't have many problems with Jim Moir but the appointment of Pam Ayres was just not on! I can't believe she lasted three years on the Sunday teatime slot (1996 - 1999). Mad

She replaced Frank Topping, who was the interim replacement for Charlie Chester. I thought Frank Topping was alright funnily enough!

He was only on Radio 2 for a couple of months until a replacement was found for Charlie Chester. Unfortunately, they gave us Pam Ayres. Rolling Eyes

Frank Topping is a Methodist minister who used to be on Pause for Thought, has written several books in a popular style and does or did a very entertaining one-man show.

Have to say that the Radcliffe 'biography' on the BBC website was funny for about 1 minute Rolling Eyes It needs re-writing by someone sensible.

Also, I'd like to see some past presenters nominated. Idea

How about a couple of past female presenters to start with: Sybil Ruscoe (used to follow Bob Harris in the wee small hours of Sunday morning) and Lynn Parsons (also had the same spot as Sybil; has deputised for Richard Allinson in the 'Late night Radio 2' spot [now occupied by Mark Radcliffe] & Sarah Kennedy)

Ed Stewart. Who's dismissal, to me is another 'Douglas disaster' decision.

Geddon,

Ray Moore and John Dunn added to

I was never a listener of their shows, so I may be doing a dis-service with the little data I've collected on their careers.

Hey, I quite like Cheggers, he's wasted on that GMTV knock-on-the-door-10-grand-thing.

I think he should sit in for Sarah Kennedy one day, see what he can do, he can do it in the noddy if he likes Laughing

Well, I'll be the one to 'bite the bullet' and say that Sarah Kennedy should be in the 'Superheroes' section too. After all she has been with Radio 2 as long as Terry Wogan, Ken Bruce & Alex Lester.

Can I nominate 2 on one thread?

I'll nominate Jeremy Vine who, after sitting in on various occasions form 1999, took over from Jimmy Young in January 2003.

I would like to nominate for the Hall of Fame Chris Stewart, who used to present the late evening weekday shows. He had such a calm and soothing manner, was lovely to go to sleep to! I'm so sorry he's left Radio 2. Sad
