In this age of mindless conformity Aretha was unique, a one off and irreplaceable.

RIP Aretha and thank you.

She certainly was. I could listen to her all day. In fact, I'd been listening to her all week, leading up to the day of her demise, as it was clear she didn't have long. Watched countless You Tube of her afterwards - there's some great stuff on there. I didn't bother with the BBC 'tribute' last night, which seemed to consist of a few talking heads stating the obvious.

The best I read online, was the obit from Richard Williams, who has been very much moved, by the looks of his tweets.

Right from that first Atlantic single, I Never Loved A Man, she was, without doubt, not only the Queen of Soul, but also invented it, giving it dimensions it never had before. Just one line in that song, 'Kiss me once again', in it's delivery and intent, has more potency than every single song, by anyone who tried (and failed) to emulate her.

Pretty good piano player, too...
