Any new artists or bands you come across and maybe wish to recommend to the others...

Devandra Banhart's new single 'Heard Somebody Say' - is fantastic (don't think it's out yet though)

Hi Julia-May I point you in the direction of the daily Richard Allinson show on BFBS Radio 2. between 9-11am. Richard always play a healthy number/amount of brand new music from bands/singers each week.

More often than not these songs become hits some time after he firsts plays them.

The latest song he has played which is sure to be ahit is a song byBrook Cogan daughter of the famous US wrestler called Hulk Hogan-the song is called For a Moment.

Norah Jones has a new album just out this week.

Each day on the way to work I pop into the local Virgin and hear a song or two on the free headphone service they have in store.

By Friday I will have listened to the whole album-I'll then decide whether to buy it or not.

What I have heard so far it's not bad!

I plan to buy it already based on what I've heard so far - although it has plenty of competition in my current Amazon wishlist.

I cannot take to Nora Jones at all, I find her rather boring. She does have a great voice but her stuff is just a bit too chilled out for me.

I'm not normally a fan of Keane, but I've heard 'Bad dream' a couple of times and I'm beginning to like it. Smile Unlike Mika Crying or Very sad

The Keane song sounds ever so slightly Beatlesish, I can definately hear the Lennon influence in there anyway.

I hate the Mika song more than ever now, grrr, wretched thing Evil or Very Mad

Julie Roberts is a wonderful new singer from Nashville. She has two CDs out to date, & made her 'live' London debut last night at the islington academy
a great bluesy take on country. Great on disc, & a superb live performer

Joan Armatrading has a new album out soon.

Have not head any tracks from it yet but I am sure it's good if it is anything like her previous albums to go by.

Will hunt this down and report back!

Well, not new but someone who I can't get enough of listening to at the moment - Gemma Hayes:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IktgyKAcCBI
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snqCTfw8zQs
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMh-Y2IWJZc

Two albums so far: "Night On My Side" (where the above songs are featured) and "The Roads Don't Love You", with a third on the way later this year. Both albums bought cheaply via Amazon since she's criminally under-rated in the UK and doesn't get much if any airplay outside a few outings on the Bob Harris show two years ago.

I don't know whether this will be to anyone's taste but I just got an interesting CD by Alan Simon called Excalibur II. It's a kind of fusion of Celtic folk music ( all fiddles and flutes and pipes), a bit of rock and some symphonic stuff courtesy of the City of Prague Philharmonic. Lots of guest artists including Justin Hayward, Jon Anderson ( of Yes),Maddy Prior,Fairport Convention and John Wetton(of Asia). There's some sterling performances from the guest vocalists and if you enjoy celtic folk then this should be right up your street.

Sounds like a very old dog's breakfast - all that's missing is Rick Wakeman. It might actually be right up my street - unfortunately although there's a load of stuff on youtube it's all "The making of..."-type interviews and very little of the music. It's also a touch pricey considering it's on a major label.

Is this a new CD Foggy, sounds very interesting and yes I love celtic rock, especially our very own Band From County Hell, cause Lincolnshire is one hell of a county, so BFCH tell me! I'm from Derbyshire originally!

Alan Simon hails from Brittany (actually born in Nantes, which is just outside). I'm no expert but his music doesn't sound particularly Celtic/Bretagnic to me. The employment of Messrs Hayward, Anderson et al is presumably to help sell the album here in the UK, the subject matter of Excalibur, King Arthur and Merlin having a proven track record here but is possibly not much of a banker in France.

Highlight of the youtube footage is Justin lounging on a sofa singing Nights In White Satin.

Anyone heard the new single from Don Henley and Kenny Rogers called Calling Me-it's terrific-really like it.

Richard Allinson played this on his daily BFBS Radio 2 earlier today.

Wonder how long before BBC Radio 2 play catch up and give this song an airing if at all.

Richard Allinson played on his daily BFBS Radio 2 show today the new single (taken the forthcoming new Erasure album to be released in May) called "I'm going to fall in love with you"- a great new tune.

International: Dierks Bentley.

National: I've been banging on for the past 2-3 years about Piney Gir, and Phill Jupitus named her project 'The Piney Gir Country Roadshow's album "Hold Yer Horses" as one of his top 5 of 2006.

Locally (Bristol): Fortune Drive (blistering rock'n'roll) and Emily Breeze and The Dobermen (whom my mate Geoff described as "P.J.Harvey without the tunes", but he is a fool - Emily's more like a female Nick Cave, and VERY tuneful!).

Well, I've mentioned her once or twice here since the start of the forum. Simply love "Greetings, Salutations, Goodbye".... Very Happy Don't have the "Horses" album yet but have "Peekahokahoo".
