I too wanted Federer to win and was sure that he would in the end but not to be.

The cricket result to me doesn't seem right either maybe they should have played more extra time to get a proper result.

I'm actually glad the tennis is over, it was beginning to get to me!

Absolutely overjoyed at the cricket - have still got a smile on my face. Very Happy Cool

The tennis - fabulous match - and as I didn't have an overwhelming favourite, I was just happy to see tennis win the day.

I would love Federer to have won. Those two missed championship points will be hard for him to forget but I expect he will put them out of his mind eventually.

I wanted Federer to win, it was certainly nail biting stuff. Ending the match with a tie break felt as bad to me as a football match finishing with penalties.
Wimbledon was superb this year though.

Got to echo everyone's feeling re Federer and Djokovic, I really felt that Roger deserved to win.

As for the cricket, call me old fashioned but I remember when if a match was tied then the side who had lost fewest wickets won. Surely cricket is about how many runs are scored and how many wickets are taken, its irrelevant how the runs are scored, if one side scores more in boundaries then surely then they've also played more dot balls which is indicative of good bowling.

Good points, Foggy. I wasn't even aware they'd changed the fewest wickets rule, until Sunday. As for your other one, I hadn't even thought about that. You're dead right.

The US Open starts today. Our Dan, Cameron, Johanna and Harriet are all in action in their first round matches.

However, the only way to watch it is by joining Amazon Prime which I have just done, though reluctantly. Must remember to cancel when the Open is over.

Well, Dan and Jo are both through to their 3rd rounds. Today Dan and Cameron have a doubles to play ... and then Dan has to play Roger!

Some of these post-match interviews are a bit bizarre. Yesterday the lovely Stan was asked why he thought he was so popular with the crowd. I mean, really, what is he supposed to say? They do love him, understandably IMO Smile .

Woo-hoo! Stan has beaten Djokovic, oh well, Djokovic retired with a hurty shoulder but Stan was playing magnificently.

Great!

Was pleased to see that Konta had made it through as well!

Jo Konta plays Elina Svitolina today at about 5pm our time, followed by, so it seems, Stan vs Medvedev then Nadal vs Cilic. Sounds like a good few hours of viewing. Go,go,go Jo, Stan and Marin, good luck to all three.

Oh well, all three lost Sad. Medvedev is a rather charming character.

Lovely to hear that Jamie Murray, along with his partner Bethanie Mattek-Sands, has won another US mixed doubles title. Cool

Serena still chasing Margaret Court's record after her defeat in this final.

I do love to watch Jamie play. He and Beth are such a good partnership, but then so were he and Martina Hingis.

I watched Serena's first set and then the last few games (with a soak in the bath in between Smile ). It is amazing to think that when Serena won her first title, her opponent wasn't even born Laughing .

I will probably watch some of the men's final tonight but although Nadal is a great player, I can't say I am a fan. I hope young Medvedev puts up a good fight.

Bit of a tussle for Nadal before he prevailed. Last I heard, before going to bed, was Nadal was 2 sets to love up.

I stayed up until 3am watching the men's final. Wow, what an incredible match! Nadal and Medvedev were inspired and produced some amazing shots, with Nadal taking sets 1 & 2, losing the next two and finally winning in the fifth. He earned two time violations before services and at least twice he held up his hands after Medvedev served because he wasn't ready! The commentators kept saying "We certainly didn't expect this" during sets 3, 4 and 5.

Medvedev certainly had plenty of crowd support (he had mine) with a tremendous reception during the presentation ceremony. I was appalled at the crowd who gave the umpire muted applause and even some boos when he received his match medal. He did a good job and Nadal deserved to be pulled up for time delays as he often pushes it to the limit.

It's a shame it had to be on so late over here. I couldn't stay up - but thought Rafa was going to get it in 3 sets when I went to bed.

Medvedev has been brilliant this year - I was pleased to read the crowd got behind him as he is a great player. A bit bad tempered at times but that's not unusual with tennis players......
It won't be long before he gets his first major - as long as his body holds up, he was fairly well strapped up for most ot the tournament.

I thought Rafa would get it this year, he has been fairly dominant.

Yes I would love to see Medvedev win a major. He is so slender compared with Nadal but wiry and strong. However the commentators remarked that although he can return power shots, he can't generate his own power to the extent that the beefier players do.
