Make a CD from music on you computer..........

I suppose it's not something that we do much of these days but I wanted to replicate a CD I'd made for Mum back in 2001 according to the label, which I found when we cleared the flat. It was full of 'old favourites' from my childhood and stuff Mum played a lot but it sounded like an old telephone line going under the Atlantic and back when I played it. Don't know what it had been put through since I'd made it!

I still had all the tracks, quite a few from Napster and the like, Wink so fired up the software last night. For some reason it wouldn't work, not sure if it was me but I'm sure I didn't have all that palarver the last time. Couldn't get it to burn using any of the 3 CD burning programs that were on the laptop so gave up feeling somewhat frustrated.

In the end I googled and there was a free Ashampoo Burning Studio. One of the ones I had was Ashampoo 2013 so thought it safe enough. Finally made the CD this morning but what a carry on to do something that was so easy to do years ago!

H

PS I guess I'm lucky to still have CD drive in the laptop as they are becoming scarce!

Funny you should bring this subject up,Helen. I was only thinking this morning about when a niece of mine asked me how to burn a CD of her music. I hadn't done one for a while and like you had forgotten ...well half forgotten. I looked on-line for a refresher course. Smile

Your perseverance paid off in the end!

What tracks are on it...not all, just some. Cool

Some of the tracks:-

Song Of The Clyde - Kenneth McKellar
Singing In The Rain - Gene Kelly
April Love - Pat Boone
I Love The Little Things - Matt Monro
The Ballad of Bethnal Green - Paddy Roberts
The Ugly Duckling - Danny Kaye
Que Sera Sera - Doris Day
My Resistance Is Low - Hoagy Carmichael
There's a Tiny House - Max Bygraves
Delaney's Donkey - Val Doonican
Wonderful Wonderful Copenhagen Danny Kaye
Out Of Town - Max Bygraves
She Wears Red Feathers - Guy Mitchell
Love's Been Good To Me - Frank Sinatra
Robin Hood - Dick James
Bring Me Sunshine - Morecambe and Wise

A bit Children's Favourite heavy but we had a lot of them on records. I remember Singing In the Rain was I think the first 45 rpm I ever saw, can picture it now the label was bright yellow and there was no middle so you had to put an adapter on to the turntable. A lot were 78s!

I'd labelled it Vol 1 but I never did a Vol 2! Think I may do one as I could think of a load more tracks to put on.

It was weird that it wouldn't work at first, and some of the titles didn't show up on the list to choose from but were in the 'my music' folder........

I think I could probably do with a refresher course on a few things! You just don't do a lot of things, like that, these days. Technology marches on I suppose, but sometimes the old ways are good to go back to!

Lots of memories associated with the tracks Becky, Mum was always singing Que Sera when I was little. A few of them I 'loved to hate' at the time, Kenneth Mckellar being one, Mum had the 45 of it, but I actually like it now!

I always say I've a very eclectic taste in music, sometimes very strange!

Donald Where's Your Troosers? came to mind seeing that name but it was Andy Stewart wasn't it.

Kenneth McKellar,a little too staid for that, perhaps? Very Happy

I always got mixed up between Andy and Kenneth, back in the day, especially on New Years Eve programmes!

Love the tracklist, H. It's funny - the main reason I wanted a computer, was to burn CDs! The one I have now, can do them in an instant. But like most people, I have no reason to do so, these days. Though having seen that playlist of yours, I am sorely tempted to stick my childhood faves on a CD or two. Easy as pie now, esp with being able to convert YT to MP3!

Raver that was one of the reasons I wanted one too, and Napster for filling in the gaps of stuff I'd had and got rid of.

I too thought I could do it in my sleep but I now realise the software was causing most of the problems.

Do your CDs now while it's on your mind, I got a lot of pleasure re visiting the tracks! Also newer laptops don't have CD/DVD drives..........

I use a good old PC to burn my CDs, Helen. It's 'Quad Core' or some such jargon. Second hand tower for £150 and touch wood, it's still going well after two years or so.

I do hope I haven't jinxed it by saying so!
