New series of Repair Shop starts tonight BBC1 8pm so just a heads up in case you want to set your recording devices!

It says it 1 of 14.

I had spotted it in the RT so watched and enjoyed it. I am so pleased it has been given a Prime Time slot - well deserved.

A programme for the times.

Watching experts lovingly repairing treasured family objects is soothing and calming.

Watching the reactions of the people as they first see their repaired objects is priceless. Cool

We watched last night's even though I have probably 10 or more from last series to watch.

I think I prefer the original format where there was less chat and more of how they did the repair. Also there would have been 4 items instead of the 3.

Interestingly as we went to delete recording (I'd set it in case our phone began its incessant ringing again yesterday!) I noticed the synopsis of the last one from the previous series that we had recorded said they were to repair an old tape recorder. I'm going to watch that one out of sequence!

I love to watch the actual repair work being done and although there are often touching stories behind the items I get a bit fed up with the lengthy shots of people fighting back tears and all those hugs. The hard side of me thinks: "Oh come one, get on with it".

I also think how much my dad would have loved the programme but he died before the first series began. He was a great one for tinkering and mending.

Got to agree with you, I'd much rather see more of the skills and less of the punters. Unfortunately tv producers seem to think that everything needs to have some teary memory or awe inspiring backstory. I'm sure that the people in the repair shop must feel a little uncomfortable with this at times.
