Robert de Niro ~ A Bronx Tale
(A lovely film I haven't seen for ages about a young boy who hero-worships a local Mafia boss, to the dismay of his bus driver dad played by de Niro) |

Maggie Smith ~ California Suite
(I saw the new "Emma" today. Very good! There was a trailer for a new version of "The Secret Garden" which didn't tempt me at all. It seemed very highly coloured with CGI birds etc. Maggie Smith was in a superb version several years ago - I doubt it could be bettered.) |

Michael Palin ~ The Missionary
(In an article I read Bill Nighy said he hadn't read any Jane Austen and it was the director (Autumn de Wilde) who had drawn him to Emma.
The last film I saw,at the cinema, was Joker. My daughter and myself thought we'd give it a go after hearing all the hype surrounding it. It was a compelling watch from start to finish (lots to talk about when it finished) with a brilliant performance from Joaquin Phoenix in the title role.
If you're a fan of Fred and Ginger,Eileen, there was a blissful compilation film of their dances on the BBC yesterday - just 15 mins long. It could have gone on and on as far as I was concerned. Wonderful classic songs as well. A real joy on a miserable wet, cold day.

James McAvoy ~ Atonement
(Spoke to a chap on Twitter,in a discussion about The Windermere Children, whose uncle was one of them.He said he was grateful all of his life for what The British did for him. He had been a teacher all of his life. Also wonderful that the two brothers were reunited. Filling up thinking about it again) |

Ronald Fraser ~ Swallows and Amazons
(It is on at 3pm today. Wondering whether or not to watch. The one of 3 or 4 years ago was a travesty, as I found out when I read the book for the first time after seeing it. I did watch today and it was really well done and true to the book. The children could actually sail, too) |
