It was a lovely final show. She talked about how she came to get into broadcasting and the debt of gratitude she owes to various people including Desmond Carrington who heard her being interviewed by Russell Davies on his programme (another great loss to Radio 2) and said he would like to do a programme with her. He then invited her to his home in Scotland and gave her some lessons in broadcasting technique. I had heard that story before but it was nice to be reminded of it.

It was a poignant ending to so many years of great listening presented by Clare. The programme ended with Dinah Shore singing "I'll Be Seeing You" but then, lest we be feeling too miserable, morphed into Peter Cook and Dudley Moore singing "Goodbye" Very Happy

That was a far better post than mine, about the same subject on 2021 thread. Thanks, Eileen. She deserved her own thread.

I am thrilled that Clare will be back on Sunday evenings soon - and for two whole hours! I had just heard the news in an email from the Len Phillips Big Band leader Joe Pettitt and came on here to tell you all but was beaten to it Very Happy

One thing I liked about Clare's show is she would include a list of places to hear that sort of music live across the country. It's great to hear support like that on national radio, but also a sign that the show was for real music-lovers. I wonder how many of those are still listening to Radio 2?

I shan't bother to listen to Radio 2 on Sunday evenings any more, unless there is a particularly good "Friday Night is" Music Night. I don't usually listen any other time in the week, either. I doubt if Radio 2 cares.

I thoroughly enjoyed Clare's 2 hours on JazzFM this evening. I listened to the second half through headphones while watching the pottery programme.

I managed to remember it once the football was finished and the kitchen beckoned. It had been on for a while by then, but was greeted by Benny Goodman and Swing! Swing! Swing!. Doesn't get any better than that. So listened for the time I was out there, creating culinary magic...when I went back out there, it was Marcus Brigstock and a New Orleans programme, which was also quite tasty - or at least what I heard of it. Fortunately, Jazz has a convenient listen again facility, situated right next to the programme itself, on the schedule, so I will catch up at some time this week.

I heard the first hour and from the start it was great. Her opening track was Hello Dolly from Frank Sinatra (not heard that in ages!).

Thanks for the listen again link I'll save it. I think it will only be for 7 days though as Magic is the same.

Just made a great discovery that could appeal to you all. Will write on here and put a longer separate post. Bluetooth Audio Receiver Adapter. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BLUETOOTH-Audio-Receiver-Adapter-for-Sony-Hi-Fi/184528567277?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

It works on old fashioned stereo sytems, like my Sony. Basically you can listen to 'sound' from your phone or tablet through your stereo. Just set mine up and it's so good! I'm guessing that I could also record direct to cassette or mini disc as well. It says Sony but it will work on any Aux In socket.

I did listen to it, just after my post, H. A great start, as you say. Another good thing about that listen again, is that you can skip a track if you don't much care for it, which came in handy once or twice. Some really good tracks, though.

I'll have to summon up my brain cell to think if I need one of those gizmos. What a great idea.

Malcolm Laycock used to be very good at listing upcoming gigs too. There was a heartfelt article in yesterday's Telegraph saying that the BBC was mad to drop Clare's show. I couldn't agree more.

Yeah. While I'm a little bothered at losing my 'local' commercial pop station, the Planet Radio have been very savvy signing up Simon Mayo, Clare Teal, Janice Long, Mark Goodier, America's Greatest Hits, and Alex Lester across their channels. BBC's loss definitely commercial radio's gains.

One of my favourite programmes of the week,Eileen. Quite odd at first to see Keith reduced to tears by some of the pieces. Very Happy Used to it now.

Was listening last night and heard her mention that the 'listen again' is, in her words, '4 Whole Weeks'. They must have improved on it as Magic was only for a week and they are in the same stable I think.

I'm glad and grateful that you posted this, H. Just catching up on the second show.

Satch and Velma Middleton - You're Just In Love. Doesn't get much better than that. Followed by some Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli.

Very nice indeed.

It might be my imagination but she seems to be playing more of the music I really do enjoy than she did on Radio 2.

That show was a good one Raver, she played a lot that I enjoyed.

Eileen you could be right but I didn't listen too much on Radio 2 partly because I was usually watching TV at the time she was on but I am enjoying the Jazz FM programmes. I loved 'As Time Goes By' on last night's show especially as I've just rescued a recording of my Dad playing the same from an old reel to reel tape!

I missed a few shows due to Line Of Duty amongst other things, so I'm gradually catching up on some. Chris Barber had a couple of tracks in the one I just listened to. There's also 'Radio 2 celebrates Jazz'...they forgot to add 'without Claire Teal', presumably. But despite that, I did listen to a couple of their offerings from the archives. First, a really good two-parter on Chris Barber, although he speaks so fast, sometimes I couldn't understand what he was saying. Also, I enjoyed When Frank Met Billie. So if anyone is interested, here be the links...
