This week it is one of the Adrian Mole books. It's nice to have a good laugh at the end of the day Laughing .

A couple of weeks ago it was "The Librarian" by Salley Vickers which was very enjoyable, especially as it was read by Barbara Flynn.

I have Book at Bedtime on series record,Eileen, but I've fallen off it just lately... think the last one I listened to was the excellent Rabbit series by John Updike.

"Jaws" is the current one which started last night. I slept well with untroubled dreams in spite of listening to it. It does seem an odd choice I must say Shocked

I saw that,Eileen, and thought it an odd choice too. I don't suppose they are using the music from the film, which was one of the more scary elements of it..Shocked....and not seeing, only hearing, Jaws rise out of the sea and devour Quint must be an odd one...

After saying that I listened to The Exorcist on Radio 4 a few years ago, having never dared watch the film, and 'enjoyed' it. I have never wanted to watch the famous head spinning scene but have always been curious about what the book/film was actually about..

They do use the "de de de de" at the start of each episode Becky. Someone on another board said that he read part of the book but gave up as he "thought it was about a big fish, not porn". It has been OK so far but there is something about to happen between Brodie's wife and Hooper, which wasn't in the film.

On this very rainy afternoon, I listened to the whole of "Jaws" and was surprised by the ending. If there was any porn in the book, it was edited out of the radio adaptation.

I've been away,Eileen,so still haven't caught up with this!
I've only seen the film and there was no porn in that...I don't think!

Had ironing and other jobs to catch up on,after being away,so took the opportunity to catch up on it whilst doing them.... glad I did. I thoroughly enjoyed it...the time whizzed by. Henry Goodman's narration was excellent.

Not sure what you mean,Eileen, when you say you were surprised by the ending...didn't it end the same as the film, with Brody being the only survivor?

Wouldn't have been quite the same without the "de de de de" Shocked Very Happy

I read this on Wiki.....Spielberg later said that without Williams's score the film would have been only half as successful, and according to Williams it jumpstarted his career.

I've started on the next Book at Bedtime. Transcription by Kate Atkinson.....an intriguing beginning.

I have been listening to Richard Osman's first book "The Thursday Murder Club". Most enjoyable and well read by Haydn Gwynne.

Yes, I've read Osman's book and enjoyed it a lot, although it did feel very much like an ITV Sunday-night two-parter. Also, the similar Marlow Murder Club by Robert Thorogood is better.

It's going to be a bit more than that. Wink

'Steven Spielberg's production company Amblin Entertainment bought the book's global film rights. The film will be written and directed by Ol Parker.'

This first book from Richard has been a runaway success.

I'm listening to the adaptation too and very much enjoying Haydn Gwynne's reading of it.
