Was Ray Moore the presenter who died of throat cancer? I used to like listening to his programme. _________________ Friends may come and friends may go, but enemies tend to accumulate. |

Yes, he was. He died in 1989, aged only 47. His story is told very movingly in his 1988 autobiography Tomorrow Is Too Late and continued by his widow, Alma, in Tomorrow --Who Knows about two years later? Well worth gettting from ebay or a second hand bookshop.

Yes, Ray Moore, he was the greatest and all those pretenders who have followed since his death are just not in the same league.
Never used to spend the whole show talking about himself!! |

Brilliant radio presenter, wonderful man, not quite my favourite R2 presenter of all time but so close you could barely get a fag paper between him & a bunch of others

I miss Ray Moore quite a bit, especially around CiN time, I have fond memories of him doing his bog eyed jog around that time of year.
I also miss Stewpot, but I suspect that won't go down too well with alot of radio 2 listeners, lol. |

It goes down well with this one Peek, I really miss Ed's Sunday show! I miss the music variation. Johnnie's great but Ed was just right for Sunday afternoons.
Nice one Lesley!

SantaFe, I was lucky enough to catch some of Stewpot's show on a digital station either over christmas or new year ( can't remember which) , and it was like putting on a comfy pair of slippers again...bliss! |

Ray, was one of those people who didn't get the recognition he deserved until after he died. He was witty, charming and had a marvellous voice. But no doubt, if he was here with us now, there would be one or two who would pick fault with him.
Maybe in a few years, once SW is kicking up daisies, he'll get the same sort of reception...........But not just yet, eh? |

I wasn't listening to Radio 2 at the time Ray was on the air, so I knew him best as the voice on the programme trailers on BBC 1. I'd love to hear recordings of his Radio 2 output if anyone has any - there's precious little surviving in the BBC archives (I think it's one complete show from around 1982, and excerpts from his last show in 1988 - hardly representative)
I can second Ian's recommendations of the two books as well. Anyone know what 'Management' is up to these days, or even if she's still alive? |

Without doubt one of the five greatest British radio presenters of all time. I can't hear the end of Cyndi Lauper's True Colours without remembering that he thought at the time (1986) that she was singing about him! |

All together now: "So don't be afraid, to let them show. Your true colours, true colours, are beautiful....like a Ray Moore". He was absolutely brilliant, wasn't he? |

Woke up to it playing softly on the radio (having fallen asleep to Janice Long). I didn't hear what SK said about it and Listen Again is on the blink but it must be 20 years since he left the studio for the last time - can hardly believe it. _________________ Ron |

Just about spot on. His last radio broadcast was in January 1988 (though he was on Wogan's TV show some time after that) and he died in January 1989--what a miss he still is.

It's Ray for me as well, though I was in my late teens when he died, Dad absolutely loved him and so did I. Such a shame, I'd love to hear him and TW have one of their chats just one more time |

If you go to You Tube and search for Ray Moore, there are some great clips, especially one of Wogan interviewing Ray after a rendition of " My Father Caught a Rabbit". _________________ You can't keep a good Tog down |

Just been watchin Vicar of Dibley and they were playing Elton's Crocodile Rock - I always think of Ray when I hear it as I remember him starting with it at 5.30 on a couple of cold winter mornings and it putting a big smile on my face at his attempt to do the la lala laa bit! I've been planning to put together an audio tribute to Ray on my blog. It won't be ready until the weekend so I'll post a link when it's up. I've got some extracts from the Early Shows plus the tribute programmes that were broadcast in 1989. Also got an edition of the 'Monday Movie Quiz' and 'Pop Score' when Ray chaired it. |

Great news--bring it on!
I've got on my Spotify playlist the Ray Conniff Singers' piece For All We Know, so often played by Ray when he was going away on holiday.

I've posted a number of Ray Moore audio artefacts on my blog. Click here: http://www.andywalmsley.blogspot.com/
The little montage should play online. All the programme extracts can be downloaded.
I'd love to hear from anyone who taped any of Ray's shows especially his Late Shows or the special interviews he did such as the one with Richard & Karen Carpenter.
There's a bit of audio, including 15 mins from an Early Show over at the Radio Rewind site

That was a nice listen.
On a walk this morning I heard a delightfully daft record on Radio Lancashire's Unforgettable.
Listening to who it was at the end it turned out to be Ray Moore with Bog Eyed Jog.

I see it's been mentioned a couple of times on this thread - I can't think I've ever heard it before. |
