I so agree Raver, I so remember that particular time, that year!

Yes Raver, I used to like it when Brian Matthew occasionally did a specific chart on SOTS

I know you love your Brian Matthew, Foggy. Well, here's a link to more than 50 Brian shows, including an Easybeat and a couple of Saturday Club. Those will always remind be of being a very young boy and either hearing them in the Barber's or at home on the radiogram.

For anyone who sees this, you don't need to be a member or anything. Just type what or who you're looking for in the search box and away you go!

Had a listen in to yesterday's programme - well the first hour because it was 1977. Quite a few I liked especially Barbara Dickson's Another Suitcase In Another Hall. I love her crystal clear voice, reminiscent of Judith Durham. I have the original Evita soundtrack and played it to death when I first got it. Others included Heatwave, ELO, David Bowie and David Soul and quite a nice song from Berni Flint.

Hoping for more from the Sixties in the not too distant future.

I've still got my CD set of Evita since I wore the vinyl out. Incredible to believe that the guy who plays Che went on to be the definitive Jean Valjean and starred as The Phantom.

I wonder how long we'll have to wait until the next one? I enjoyed it and I can honestly say that I'd never heard that Animals single before.

The bafflement at some of those cheesy Beatles covers making the charts has never faded through the years though. That cover of Girl could curdle milk!

But lovely to get a 60's POTP after all this time. I do prefer to hear a top 20 from a particular week, than a 60's show. simply because it can take you back to a particular time and place, in many instances.

Never thought I'd be quoting and answering one of my own posts...

Next Saturday features the 1969 chart. Woo hoo!!

Not before time though I have suspicion that it's a typo and it's really 1996 Very Happy

Caught up with the 1969 chart this morning - lots of great tracks but as always the opening of Man Of The World by Fleetwood Mac stopped me in my tracks - it is just perfection.

When the 69 chart had finished a decent Blondie track, Island Of Lost Souls, came on the 82 chart so I stayed with it to see what else came on. Enjoyed hearing Shalamar, Yazoo,Haircut One Hundred and then the wonderful I Won't Let You Down from Ph.D a great favourite of mine from that decade.

Either Fleetwood Mac or Ph.D could have been my Track of the Day.

1967 today, with Noel Gallagher doing the honours. That'll do me.

It was my first week at big school. Hated every minute of it! Yellow Submarine reminds me so much of that time. They didn't even play football there, unless you gave up a lunch hour, as it was a rugby school more than anything, despite Keith Peacock (Charlton Athletic) being one of the PE teachers.

Another rare offering for the oldies later! 1969 again. I say again, but the last one was last May.

Almost typed Lady May there... Wink

A 1968 edition of the programme today is (for me) good timing as there is a shortage of football today. A friendly later on but not the same.

1987 starting off okay - Fine Young Cannibals - Percy Sledge - Peter Gabriel and Ben E King.

Second time round for a couple of them.

It was a joyous hour, spent listening in the sunshine. All 20 songs seemed to have a particular memory for me. I was a couple of months from my 13th birthday at the time and had just started to buy the Record Mirror, Melody Maker, NME and Disc and Music Echo, along with the occasional single.

And right now, Boom Radio will be playing exactly the same chart!

If ever there was a time when escapism was needed...

I noticed it was '67 when I checked Radio Times Rsver.

Silence is Golden has lots of memories for me, I was in Austria for a month on an exchange having just done my GCE's and Silence was played a lot on the jukebox at the open air lido that we used to go to!

Oops I'd just read something from Ron..... Senior moment Wink

Blimey...I've been called Ian by Eileen and now Ron!!

I've been called worse, I suppose...

I was listening to Ken a few weeks back, when he had Chesney Hawkes's Tracks Of My Years. He was saying that his Dad, Len (Chip) Hawkes has been ill for a few years now, so he (Chesney) has taken his place on the Trems tour.

Len was lead vocals on Silence. I loved the Tremeloes. Such a fun band. Useless info alert..Brian Poole got married in a church that I can see from the window where I'm typing from.

Ronnian Raver.

H, you minx! Now I'm Rsver!

Anyway, I just came here to say that having heard a bit of Vernon Kay talking to Gambo and Gumbo telling him that the year is 1969, while the website says 1967, it's been quite a confusing day, one way or another!

I'm happy with that, regardless. Bet that summer of '67 in Austria was quite something, though.

This week's first chart from 1969.

A song from The Four Tops that I can't ever remember hearing before. What Is A Man.

Stayed listening for the seventies (1978) chart - a good chart for me!

Yvonne Ellerman - Clout - Goldie - The Bee Gees - Marsha Hain (used to think they were American) - Kate Bush - The Motors and Annie's Song from James Galway. I prefer it with John Denver's vocal but it's a lovely melody.

Didn't hear it Becky but the names made me recollect most of the chart! Can remember hearing the Four Tops but not that often.

Those were two good charts. I remember 1978 as being the first time I flew out of Heathrow airport to Birmingham at around the time that The Motors had 'Airport' in the charts!

I started a new job at Gatwick Airport when The Motors were in the chart.

Steve Wright is the new host of Pick of the Pops!

The BBC say:

Steve Wright is the new host of Pick of the Pops every Saturday lunchtime (1-3pm) from Saturday 21 October, while Paul Gambaccini moves to Sunday evening (8-10pm) to premiere an exciting new live show on the station.

Steve, who will continue to present Love Songs each Sunday morning (9-11am), says: “Pick of the Pops is such a legendary show. Gambo brilliantly made it his own over the last seven and a half years, and now it’s my chance to give it a go! It’s a great privilege to present such an iconic show on Radio 2, and Pick of the Pops fans don’t worry – it’s going be the same and different at the same time.

“I’ve got lots of other exciting upcoming Radio 2 shows too, and am particularly looking forward to Your Ultimate Kylie Song when I’ll be counting down her top songs, as voted for by listeners. Like most people around the world I’m a huge Kylie fan, and can’t wait to hear which song takes that number one spot!”

Helen Thomas, Head of Radio 2 says: “I’m delighted Steve will be picking up the mantle of the mighty Pick of the Pops in the autumn. I can’t wait to hear his unique take on the songs that over the decades have soundtracked all of our lives. Steve will continue to broadcast specials across the station, including our long-awaited Kylie Minogue listener vote, and he’ll carry on soothing the nation every Sunday morning with his ever popular Sunday Love Songs show.”

“I’d like to thank Paul for presenting Pick of the Pops so brilliantly since 2016. Given Paul’s passion for music of all eras and genres I wanted to create a new Radio 2 home for him which allows him to showcase his unparalleled knowledge whilst playing some of the best records in the world. I can’t wait to hear Paul’s first show in October, and I’m looking forward to celebrating his broadcasting golden anniversary this Autumn.”

The Gambaccini show sounds up my street. I have a feeling this is perhaps Radio 2 realising that maybe they have gone too far in abandoning the older demographic and are taking some steps to correct their error. I like Paul so I will definitely give his show a go.
