The great man has left the station and the world is a sadder place. _________________ life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans |

Yes, very sad news.
Always weird when someone who's been around for pretty much all your life is no longer there. As a kid I loved him on The Wombles and Jackanory, and as an adult in Doctor Who. What a career! |

It certainly was a great career. From the early black and white films he made, to Perks in The Railway Children and all the kid's stuff, from Jackanory to Old Jack's Boat, which I used to enjoy, probably more than my eldest grandaughter did.
Loved his novelty records and also his version of I've Grown Accustomed To Her Face, which is just lovely...Danny Baker used to play it a fair bit on his Radio London afternoon show

Ditto all above sentiments.....
I watched an episode of The Wombles that someone posted by way of tribute. It very much reminded me of the great days of The Magic Roundabout, and the warmth and wit that can be imbued by a genuinely talented voice-over.
I would very much like to have seen/heard a proper interview with Bernard, reflecting on his life, times and extraordinary career.
Spoons, eh? |

This any good, Buck? I typed his name in and this came up on suggestions, so I must have searched before and forgotten. Again, thanks to Andy Walmsey. It's Russell Davies and Bernard for an hour. You can't get better than that!

That's excellent. Many thanks, Raver.
I will give it a listen! |
