Funny you say some titles left off Raver as I had a look yesterday and thought it seemed somewhat shorter than usual! Sounded like one of the better ones though so will give it a listen.

I know they have a habit of leaving some out, because you've mentioned it more than once, H. That one only shows what was played in the first hour, which isn't good enough, is it? My point being, if someone got that page up and saw what was on offer, there's every chance they wouldn't bother, thus Tony B less lower ratings. Which seems to be important these days.

Yes! I put that on again this morning and heard him say that. I didn't put two and two together, H. I just thought that being his programmes are pre-recorded these days, that he'd somehow got his shows mixed up and thought he was recording the Friday night one!

The Delta Lady has a lovely voice. I remember a Johnnie Walker interview with her a few years ago. Rita is such an interesting woman. Must be the Cherokee blood. At the time, I almost bought her book on the strength of it. She pulled no punches, apparently.

Did you know that she composed the piano outro on the extended version of Layla? And didn't get a penny for it. Stitched up by Robert Stigwood, Clapton and Jim Gordon, who she was living with at the time. She also co-wrote Superstar, later recorded by The Carpenters, with Bonnie Bramlett and Leon Russell, but didn't get any credit for it until 1992. It's an unscrupulous and mysoginistic business, or was.

I've been hearing this for a few weeks now. It's such a refreshing change to the usual R2 playlist choices. But then it's so classy, that it would stand out anywhere. I think it was Gary Davies standing in for Ken a few weeks ago, who had it as his record of the week. The production reminds me a bit of the Fifth Dimension, but it's really good in it's own right. I love it.

Track from yesterday. Johnnie's SOT 70's featured a telephone call with Graham Nash, to promote CSN&Y's Deja Vu package.

It featured a demo of Birds by Neil Young, which in my humble, is one of the most beautiful songs he's ever written, or anybody has written. It's not on the original album, but is on Neil's After The Goldrush - another must have. I've loved it for almost 50 years, but the demo is something else, mostly due to the harmonies with Nash and the acoustic guitar from Neil. Two different versions of the same wonderful song. I'm moved to tears when I listen to either of them.

I heard Steve Wright play it a few weeks ago and was quite impressed. Features Elton John, Yo Yo Ma, Chad Smith and Robert Trujillo.

It comes from a covers/tribute album called The Metallica Blacklist, due out in September. A four CD set, it will contain, amongst others, six versions of Enter Sandman, seven versions of Sad But True and The Unforgiven, and no less than TWELVE of Nothing Else Matters. Just about everyone has a crack at doing Metallica, except Bill Bailey Laughing

Outrageous that the Bailey has been omitted! Do they not know how much of a Rock God he is?

Looking at the track list, there are a few contributors I wouldn't mind listening to - Sam Fender, Royal Blood, The Biff, St Vincent, Imelda, Rodrigo y Gabriella and a few more, maybe.

A little known fact is that a 17 years old Lars Ulrich came all over way over to humble Woolwich Odeon, as his favourite band, Diamond Head (I'd have money on it that they got their name from Phil Manzanera's solo album) were playing there. After that, the rest is hysterical...

Caught up with last week's Pick of the Pops this morning and the number 3 on the 1966 chart is my Track of the Day - Roy Orbison's Too Soon To Know - he didn't half sing some beautiful songs beautifully.

Looking on Wiki to see who composed it (Don Gibson ) I read ....Roy Orbison Sings Don Gibson - a tribute album recorded by Roy Orbison for MGM Records, A few of the songs were recorded before his first wife Claudette's death in a motor-bike accident in June 1966. The album was put on hold as Orbison was filming The Fastest Guitar Alive. "Too Soon To Know" was banned by the BBC as they felt it was too personal about Claudette's death.

Seems a a strange reason..

My Track of the Day today is from Kiki Dee on Pick of the Pops with the rather beautiful Loving and Free. A song she composed herself.

Can't say I'm that familiar with it but have heard it a couple of times recently. It was on Boom Radio last week.

Blimey. I've heard that countless times over the years and never knew what it was and who wrote it. The only Khachaturian piece i know (or knew) was Sabre Dance.

I bought the Love Sculpture version, with Dave Edmunds on guitar, back in 1968 I think it was. Brilliant guitar.

There was a really good documentary on Roberta a while back. Until then, I hadn't realised just how good she was,

I loved the story that Clint Eastwood heard it on his car radio. It'd been on her LP a couple of years previously and that was it. So he managed to contact her, asking if he could use it for a film he was making..Play Misty For Me.

The rest is history. Quite a scene too, as I remember...

Listened to Pick of The Pops this morning and the first track from 1976 is my Track of the Day. The very sad but beautiful So Sad The Song by Gladys Knight and The Pips.

In the rundown Paul mentioned Hurt by The Manhattans, which he didn't play.
Was miffed about that as that would have been a contender too!
