|
|
Yes it was announced on his show today that he would be leaving at the end of March. He is going to Greatest Hits Radio on a 1000 - 1300 weekday show starting in April.
I didn't hear the announcement but I guess it was only to be expected after Steve's departure last year.
Ken is taking Pop Master with him as well!

'Ken is taking Pop Master with him as well!'
According to an article in The Independent - ' This is due to the fact that he savvily bought the rights to the quiz when he first debuted it'
I was never a regular listener but on the occasions I tuned in to Ken I felt at home instantly - his easy manner was always welcoming.
Seemingly a thoroughly nice chap, who knew what he was doing. Hope all works out well for him.
Tried to comment this morning but the site wouldn't let me sign in. Tried quite a few times.
The avatars and smileys have all disappeared too but this happened a few weeks ago.

That's me done with weekday Radio 2 now, I'll still try and catch SotS on a Saturday and dip into Sunday but as for the rest , thanks but no thanks, Greatest Hits or Boom look like the places to be. Congratulations BBC your long running suicide is going really well. _________________ The wheel keeps on turning...

Bit of a quandary today on Popmaster. Someone got a 39 and Ken couldn't say the usual 'We'll see you back at the end of the year etc'. lnstead But I'm reasonably confident he will be on Greatest in December, along with anyone else who get 36 or 39 (there are three so far) though Ken said 'We will arrange something special for those who have qualified this year which won't take place in December this year'. Well, he couldn't say otherwise, could he? _________________ life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans |

Simon Mayo's drivetime was covered by Andy Crane yesterday - Simon was filming TV ads with Ken, so expect a campaign starting soon! |

I keep thinking that too. Makes you appreciate them everytime you listen now.

Surely even the Beeb wouldn't dare to get rid of Johnnie. He has two very good shows and a huge fanbase.
At least I would hope not! _________________ life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans |

Once again the BBC treat one of their most faithful employees in a disgraceful manner.
Ken Bruce
@RealKenBruce
I will be presenting my last show on Radio 2 next Friday. I had intended fulfilling my contract until the end of March but the BBC has decided it wants me to leave earlier. Let’s enjoy the week ahead!

They're not really helping Vernon as I'm sure some listeners will be resentful of him taking over.
It could have been done in a much better manner. |

BBC have always excelled in the disgusting treatment of people who are deemed to have served their purpose (just ask Sue Barker).
Ken will at least know now that he did the right thing in deciding to jump before being pushed. I would have thought that Johnnie Walker and Tony Blackburn would have cause to consider their options. Of course, someone may need to be retained as the 'token oldie' at Radio2, just to tick the box on the diversity spreadsheet. |

The Beeb would be nuts to get rid of Johnnie Walker....but then they are given what has happened in the last year or so. He would be a perfect fit on BOOM RADIO though _________________ Pirate Johnnie Walker played my request on 11 April 2009 |

Nice little interview on Radio 4's Today programme this morning - Garry Richardson talks to Ken.
Selects two tracks of his years and has a little, good natured under the circumstances, swipe at Radio 2 (BBC) |

Gosh this really is The End.......
I've listened to Ken probably from 84 from time to time, work permitting and in the car. Jeremy's chats for 20 years, can it really be that long ago? He really is the best and I'll miss him!

A chap on Twitter (his name tells you whether he is to be taken seriously or not) has dragged Ken's name into the political arena this morning.
Sir Michael Take CBE
@MichaelTakeMP
Now we know Sue Gray was the evil socialist mastermind who plotted Partygate, we must now ask is she also behind:
Tofu?
Those shaved up the side hairstyles?
The sacking of Ken Bruce?
Angela Rayner’s legs?
Rod Stewart’s scanning units?
Tight crotchy leggings?
Vegan breakfasts?
🤔

😂😂
Love the record Ken chose to end with.. |

Switched on GHR this morning for the first time since Ken started his show (apart from hearing Popmaster on day one!) and it was great to hear him again.
I'd sort of switched out of his show unless I was in the car a while ago but I'll be listening more often.

There seems to be quite a lot of Queen, but generally the station is a good listen and Ken's fitted in nicely.
It must surely be sooner rather than later that Steve Wright is in the middle of a Bruce-Mayo sandwich. |

Yes I thought he sounded really at home on there Ian.
Would be good to have Steve back on weekdays.

It's a pretty good show. Ken's shoehorning a few 60's as well, Aretha etc, along with a couple of good features where a listener picks his three songs from a year. Ben Elton did one (predicably Queen based, due to We Will Rock You) and another listener picked 1970 and his three were All Right Now, Bridge Over Troubled Water and Let It Me. So he's settling in nicely. _________________ life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans |
