Sad news that Paul has died aged 67.
--------

TV presenter and comedian Paul O'Grady has died at the age of 67, his partner Andre Portasio says.

He died "unexpectedly but peacefully" on Tuesday evening.

O'Grady rose to fame in the 1990s with his iconic scouse drag queen persona Lily Savage, going on to present game show Blankety Blank and other light entertainment programmes.

Later in his career, he went on to host a number of chat shows on ITV and Channel 4.

Mr Portasio said in a statement: "It is with great sadness that I inform you that Paul has passed away unexpectedly but peacefully yesterday evening...

"He will be greatly missed by his loved ones, friends, family, animals and all those who enjoyed his humour, wit and compassion.

"I know that he would want me to thank you for all the love you have shown him over the years."

Very sad news to wake up to.

I read just the other day that he was going to be on Boom Radio at Easter.

Very, funny talented man.

RIP Paul. x

Such sad news. He made me laugh on a Sunday afternoon as I made our late lunch just telling it as it is.

Was looking forward to hearing him on Easter Sunday too, but glad he was able to do his Christmas show on Boom. He should never have had to leave R2 but that's another story.

RIP Paul.

I don't think I've ever seen and heard so many people say what a great person he was, than I've seen and heard today. And read. What a wonderful human being he was.

I was particularly struck by this article from a few years back.

Malcolm Prince on Twitter.

Boom Radio will repeat Paul’s final programme on Easter Sunday 2pm

He’d find his Christmas special being aired at Easter very amusing

The sentiments in the show feel right too – hope, wish fulfilment, joy - even love

Very fitting.

I enjoyed it as I cooked our Christmas lunch. A nice moment when Paul played The Floral Dance then said was it just him who was thinking of Terry Wogan. I'd had the very same thought.

Very sad.
I always felt that his warmth and cheeky humour (without malice) made him a good successor to Terry Wogan in being able to carry a show.
He was an effortless and natural broadcaster and, by all accounts, a thoroughly nice bloke.

I was hoping to have many years ahead of listening to him on Boom or GHR.

RIP
