According to a government report we could be soon waiting two weeks before we get our rubbish collected. It also points out that it's not unhealthy for rubbish to be lying around for that long. Speculation is also growing that we soon be taxed on our collections. |

Some of the local councils up here in Northumberland already do that, plenty of residents having no less than three wheelie bins (where the hell are you supposed to put three of the things? - I'll never get the car onto the driveway anymore!).
Taxing us for collections has been on the cards for ages - our recycling box for paper, etc., has a barcode on it so that our habits can be monitored. Ostensibly, the council claim it is for the purposes of a prize draw held once a month, the winner getting £100. Uh-huh.... _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

Most councils in Notts are already effectively on fortnightly collections - they empty green and black bins alternate weeks. Doesn't reduce the amount of rubbish, of course, just means you're doing the council's work of sorting it.
The risk to public health of food rubbish hanging around for two weeks is obviously much reduced if everyone wraps it securely when putting it in the bin (if only everyone would). Unfortunately the official recommendation for this is to use newspaper rather than plastic bags or bin liner. Well I'm sorry but you cannot close and securely tie newspaper to prevent spillage or smell, so I hope all my bags are the biodegradeable ones they keep banging on about. _________________ Ron |

Our rubbish collections are ok...what peed me off recently is the 15 quid charge for removal of bulky items eg mattresses. And they moan about fly tipping.. _________________ treasure

Don't know what all the fuss is about, we have had fortnightly collections of rubbish for almost eight years and we have the highest percentage of recycling of any council area in the country. It's just down to common sense, we have 3 wheelie bins, one for rubbish for landfill, one for ANYTHING recyclable, the 3rd for compostable waste. The biggest problem is where to keep the 3 large wheelie bins, still so long as you remember that problems are only answers is disguise, everything is just fine. So stop whinging and catch us if you can, that's North Kesteven District Council.
