It's like the ravens leaving the Tower. I never thought this day would come, and I have mixed feelings.
The headlines:
Steve Wright to leave weekdays on Radio. Love Songs to continue, as will the Serious Jockin' podcast
Tim Smith and Janey Lee-Grace to leave Radio 2 altogther, Bobbie Pryor goes back to just doing travel
Scott Mills to take over, leaving Radio 1 after 24 years. Show will run 2pm-4pm
Sara Cox to get an extra hour, running 4pm-7pm.

Being honest, Wright has done my head in and can be incredibly annoying. But the frustration lies in the fact he can be a great broadcaster when he bucks his ideas up.
I don't really see Scott Mills as being a great replacement, and I think Radio 2's listening figures will take a massive hit it won't recover from.
I'd prefer they got rid of Jeremy Vine's show, which is increasingly repetitive and hysterical. |

I feel the same, as I said on another thread:-
"Strangely Steve Wright was one of the reasons I turned to R2 back in the very early 80s (maybe even 79!) when he came on at 2 in the afternoon on Radio 1. Having had 8 hours of sometimes difficult passengers at the airport his voice on my drive home, finishing at 2pm, was just too much! I found him the same on R2 but he must have mellowed in the intervening years!"
I agree with you about the listening figures probably doing a dive as well.
Makes you wonder how safe Ken Bruce is as he is older than Steve. Different kind of show though IMO.

Sorry Ian. I didn't see this was here, when I put a post on this topic earlier.
My sentiments are the same as yours. He could be a brilliant broadcaster at times. Of course, we all hate the talking or singing over the tunes he played, but I used to love some of the fictional characters he had augmenting his show over the years. Not sorry to see Tim and Janey go.
I'd not seen that Danny Baker tweet either. Lovely.
Regarding Ken, H. I don't think they'd dare shift him. It'll be his choice. I always thought they were looking at Scott Mills to be his eventual replacement. But that's been kicked into touch. Apart from Ken, Liza and a bit of Johnnie and a pinch of SOTS, it's radio bland for me. At least with regards to the daytime programmes. _________________ life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans |

I am hoping that Steve's afternoon show might pop up on Greatest Hits (much of his content is greatest hits already) and he can hand-over to the Simon Mayo drivetime show that we already tune into.
That would be a really potent schedule, and I would hope that they could give R2 the good kicking that it so richly deserves! |

They must have taken notice of Buck's post! It would be a bit of a game changer if he did. _________________ life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans |

Fingers crossed!
If Steve Wright pops up on GHR, that really would involve a quantum leap in production levels.
With the notable exception of Simon Mayo, GHR presenters pretty much just 'turn up' and make a bit of small talk whilst the same 50 tracks go round and round daily on a loop.
Interesting times. |

Richie Anderson was sitting in for Scott Mills yesterday. From Steve Wright to Richie Anderson in just a few months... What a decline! |

He's been on loads of radio and TV progs, so obviously the Beeb are trying to create a celeb out of him. They really are out of tune! _________________ life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans |
