Sad to read today that this week's column is her last in the Sunday Times.

To quote she says 'Changes are on the way'...... but closes by saying 'I look forward to meeting again in a little while and another place'.

I've always enjoyed the radio column in the Sunday Times both Gillian's and her predecessor Paul Donovan's.

So keep your eyes scanned for where she will appear and report back please.

I'll do the same although I can't think where she can be going to.

Newspapers don't seem to have much enthusiasm for serious coverage of the arts anymore, sadly. It doesn't seem that long since her Telegraph column was axed.

She still has much to offer, so I hope she gets snapped up by somebody.

The Tories are doing their best to strangle the arts, from what I've seen. Given how revered we are in the culture, you'd have thought the arts would have been cherished and looked after.

That's sad. I always like Gillian's column while wishing that her TV counterpart had one tenth of her talent.

I agree, the TV one was streets behind Gillian's.

Coincidentally Gillian was on our local news last night about a museum in Liverpool during the war, she said she was about 5 years old at the time!

Gillian appeared on Radio 4's Front Row the other day to talk about being sacked from The Sunday Times:

Very interesting Raver, had to dodge the notice to disable my ad blocker though! I wonder how often she writes?

I'm not entirely sure, H. The link I put up was dated May 21st, while the second article of her's, is dated June 14th.

https://inews.co.uk/opinion/gb-news-andrew-neil-gillian-reynolds-delusions-1050601

I only found out about Gillian this morning, because the BBC News homepage feature front page headlines from the day's papers and the i had her on the front page, effectively saying that today was her first article. It's no longer on the BBC page, so I can't quote it verbatim. I would have thought it would be weekly, but that's just a guess.

I've just checked...my ad blocker is turned off on the i - but I don't get any ads on it!

At the end of today's offering, it states 'a weekly column'.

Thanks Raver. I don't want to disable my ad blocker and sadly the i plonks a square right in the middle of the text so I struggled again to read this weeks....... Will try again for last week's before the 'square' pops up again!

That's a shame, H. I use ad blocker - and Firefox as my browser. I don't get any of that. Only one or two sites get huffy about it and I just disable it for that particular page. Are you able to do that?

Gillian's talking TV in the main this week. I agree with her about Channel 5, but for different reasons. They are responsible for PBS America, which I love - The Roosevelts was a fantastic series and there's those other brilliant Ken Burns documentaries that pop up regularly, like Country Music and The Vietnam War and not least The Civil War. Currently enjoying his latest - Hemingway on BBC 4.

I also watched a lot of Yorkshire Vet progs during the lockdown, even though I've never owned a pet, save for the occasional goldfish won at Blackheath Fair, back in the olden days. I think I watched it in the main, because it usually had a happy ending, and not being able to see my children and the little ones, sustained me in those trying times.

But of course, now we are free of the virus and can do whatever we like, thanks to Bozo Johnners and his band of thieves.

Brilliant articles, both. They echo my sentiments, and is probably the reason why she is now unwanted by the major national newspapers.

My OH likes those movies which Channel 5 puts on in the afternoon, or at least did until the fine weather enticed us outside more often. There is a satellite channel, Movies 24, which only broadcasts such things - currently they're all Christmas themed. I have hidden the remote.

This week's Reynoldian offering is the welcome return of The Proms - which in my humble, are well worth the licence fee. God help us all if the Nasty Party get their way and decimate the Beeb.

There was a welcome surprise when I saw Gillian's name when I clicked on the i this morning. She hasn't written a column for many months and I thought she must have caught something very nasty or some other dreadful happening. Not the most cheerful of articles, but hey...it's Gillian Reynolds!

Another rare article from Gillian. Getting stuck into the Today programme and other BBC failings.

Always a good read so thank you for it Raver!

I so agree with this comment of hers "When times are hard we still turn to voices we trust to explain the what and why. As times get even harder who will I turn to?"

That is becoming harder almost by the day. As for Amol Rajan I'm dreading seeing what horror he will bring to University Challenge. I just hope he's been told to speak somewhat slower or we'll not get the gist of the question nor I suspect will the contestants!

My pleasure H.

Yes, that was a spot on comment, wasn't it? Most things these days seem to be dumbed down.

I've missed the last few Uni Challenges, so must catch up with them. I don't think I'll bother after the final.

You're welcome H. While I'm here, Johnnie W said a few lovely words about Wrighty on his show last Sunday. Well worth digging that out.

It's about 21:45 in. Suitably after Steve Harley Come Up and See Me, seeing they were once next door neighbours when they were kids
