I listen to Michael Parkinson yesterday and he had a guy on with him reviewing the Sunday newspapers. The guest started talking about an article in one of the Sunday newspapers about some poor soul dying on board a BA flight from Delhi to London where BA cabin staff moved the dead corpse to first class and sat it next to some poor guy all buckled up etc. In addition, all of the dead persons family were also moved to first class and this poor guy after paying £4k for the privilage of sitting in this section class had to endure not only sitting next to a corpse but also a wailing family all around him for a considerable length of time.

When the chap complained to BA staff about all this they just advised him "get over it".

Apparantly this is standard practise/policy for BA when someone dies during a long haul flight but if you fly Singapore Airlines they have a cupboard which they put you in if die during the flight so as not to inconvenience passagers.

Michael Parkinson could hardly contain himself re laughter and the appalling policy of BA and their comments to the guy in first class "get over it". He must repeated this 3 or 4 times in quick succession whilst trying to hold it together and not bursting out laughing.

When he got himself under control he slated the BA policy-without wishing to be unkind to anybody I thought the story and BA's policy to be quite quite amusing too.

It would appear that the only way you can get upgraded to 1st Class on BA nowadays is to drop dead! Shocked Wink

I wonder what BA are supposed to do? Normal procedure would be to divert and remove the body. But this would also annoy passengers as they would be delayed by maybe 3-4 hours. Maybe they should refuse to allow unwell or elderly people to fly with them?

Reminds me of Basil Fawlty's frantic line " are we only supposed to take guests who have a 50/50 chance of making it through the night??"

Surely they could have placed the body someplace other than next to a customer? maybe they don't have any storage space at deck level.

and don't call me Shirley.. Laughing
