Pakistan's cricket coach Bob Woolmer was murdered in his hotel room on Sunday after the team's World Cup shock defeat to Ireland, Jamaican police say.

A post-mortem examination established that the former England player had died as a result of "manual strangulation", police Commissioner Lucius Thomas said.

"In these circumstances, the matter of Mr Woolmer's death is now being treated as murder," he told a news conference.

That would involve someone knocking off the Pakistani team one by one...

Interesting to see a familiar face at the Jamaican news conference, former London copper Mark Shields, who is regarded as responsible for the CCTV coverage of London following bombings in the 1990's.

Saw mark Shields on TV last night again, he's making his involvement very visible and openly talking about the expected usefulness of CCTV tapes (and digitalising them) from the hotel. He needs to be careful, talking so openly may put his own life and those of the forensic staff at risk Shocked

Its never a good idea to openly discuss the progress of an investigation unless the are using it as a tactic to present an illusion that the police know more than they actually do and hence put pressure on the culprits.

That's true, and it can make the culprits panic and hurt someone.

In typically understated way The Sun is reporting an al Qaeda link to the murder today.

He went to my school (Skinners' in Tunbridge Wells).

As did Phil Edmonds. And Nick Knowles (presents D.I.Y. shows, etc. on T.V.).

And 'Magoo', the guitarist from 'The Anti-Nowhere League'.
