'Get Your Act Together' is a series currently airing on Channel 4, in which promoter Harvey Goldsmith attempts to turn around the fortunes of various entertainment businesses, including 'Big L'.

Each of the six programmes will be followed by a half hour show on E4 in which Harvey and the act are reunited for a frank, no-holds-barred exchange in front of a live studio audience. The audience will be made up of industry insiders, radio enthusiasts and other interested parties.

============================
Should be interesting for those interested in radio

I used to like those "turn around an ailing business" tv shows with that posh bloke, can't think of his name... Sir somebody or other?
Anyway, even now, I'd love to have somebody like him come along to go over our business and point out where improvements could be made and hear criticism from another point of view! Fascinating stuff.

And it was called "Troubleshooter". My dear husband, Mr. S., worked on some of those when he was at the BBC. John Harvey-Jones is a lovely man!

The Harvey Goldsmith series is an exact copy of Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares, and as such seems a little formulaic and set-up. But last week's show about Samantha Mumba was interesting - the girl was clearly deluded, and surrounded by people she didn't realise were simply leeching off her. Her failure to get a UK manager was most interesting, when you discovered that the bosses of Sugababes and Lily Allen are more critical than you'd think.

So I''l be watching the whole series and look forward to the Big L one.

Oh yeah - Walsh was nowhere to be seen. She was dropped by her record company years ago and now lives in LA where she has a manager called Richard who's clearly not very good, but massages her ego. She does some lingerie modelling to earn a living, and goes to 6am acting classes for those film roles she still believes she's entitled to.

Well, I initially thought this was about Radio London (a.k.a. 'Big L.'), the offshore 'pirate' station of the 1960's.

But I guess not Confused?

Yeah, that's what I thought. Never mind. Another rip-off format that's worth missing.

It is. That's coming up in a couple of weeks. Each week features a different business.

He'll have his work cut out then - 'Big L.' closed down as a result of 'The Marine Offences Act' in 1967! Crying or Very sad

It seems not; the current lot just seem to have adopted the name.

I must say I wondered if it could be a similar situation to 'Radio Caroline', who continue as an internet / satellite station, but the website doesn't suggest that's the case - 'Radio Caroline's website makes a big deal of their buccaneering history, and rightly so! Cool

The station that calls itself "Big L" (aka Radio London) is owned and operated by Ray Anderson, whose recording studio business based in Frinton-on-Sea was responsible for the production many jingles and trails for Radio Caroline in its 1970s phase after the Mi Amigo returned to the east coast. Ray was one of the people who obtained an RSL licence to resurrect "Radio London - Big L" from a coaster moored off Clacton for a month one summer several years back, and I think he did some sort of deal which allowed him to use the name.

The satellite station called "Big L" (and which uses several well-known radio presenters like David Hamilton, Mike Read, etc) is actually run and uplinked from Ray's studio centre in Frinton.

There, what a little mine of information I am, eh my little darlings?

Thanks Ella, and g.f.

That's actually whetted my appetite, 'coz the programme MAY therefore include some archive footage. Very Happy

Mr. S. has tons of archive footage and off-air recordings of Big L from its MV Galaxy days. (He's ex-BBC and well connected, you see!).

Ella

PS: Johnnie Walker has tons and tons as well.
