I remember back in the 70s, the Beeb showed "breaking news" live film from one of the Apollo missions of a creature on the moon! sounds corny but it was well done with only quick grainy glimpses of the creature....
My dad yelled for me to come through and watch and I fell for it!

Does anyone remember the 'Lirpa Loof' on That's Life? A supposed new species of animal at a zoo, if I remember rightly!!

Yes, I can remember that, not in great detail, but I do remember the stunt. I used to like That's Life, it would seem corny now but it was an entertaining show back then.
Plus, I'll admit fancying Esther Rantzen when I was young! Embarassed

I can remember a furry looking little creature jumping up and down behind the bars of a cage - the so-called Lirpa Loof.

Does anyone remember the 'Nationwide' story about the Spaghetti tree?

I do remember a TV April Fool about spaghetti from the dim & distant past. It must have been that one I saw.

It was actually a story on Panorama, introduced by the late Richard Dimbleby.

The one April Fool I remember from Nationwide, where it was frequently difficult to distinguish real from fantasy every episode, was the new building standard regulation which required the traditional three-pin electrical sockets to be installed upside down.

I remember in the 70s a news flash that someone had found a dead baby Loch Ness Monster. Turned out someone (a bit sick) had doctored a dead seal. Anyway, we (dim Highlanders) believed it for a day!

Also I remember a report of a road where cars appeared to roll up hill - was that an April fool? I think it was in the late 60s.

That road was re-investagated by the Top Gear team - it is an optical illusion.

"The Electric Brae", between Ayr and Turnberry on the coast road. It only works if you're going southbound.
