Dear Mr. Nelson

You're going to annoy the admin and mods with stupidly huge image external refs like that one. Can't you Photoshop it first?

Don't let me stop you. Ken Bruce reminds me of Rab C. Nesbitt. I bet he wears a string vest in the studio.

Scott,

How the devil can you say that KB sounds like Rab C, Nesbitt????

They have totally different accents. As a Scot myself, I can hear the difference, and if you listened carefully, so would you. But I can under stand how you'd think that way, and that we all talk like Rab C.

I read elsewhere on these boards that you were in Lakeside recently, and you live on the borders of Essex and East London. Having just spent eight and a half years living and working within a mile of Lakeside, I could not get to grips with the accent. To me it was a foreigh accent.

You all talked the same. I felt that I was in some faded, past set of Eastenders, or "Only Fools 'n Horses" where I should have addressed my boss as "Guv", and littered my conversation with the likes of "Cushtie" and "lubbly jubbly" - at least that's how I was talked to at times!

Oh well, Scotty, Happy Xmas, and lang may your lumb reek!

Dearest Iain,

I find Ken Bruce smug, patronising and arrogant...he mumbles and I sometimes have trouble understanding what he's saying...he's never been one of my favourites and I often switch him off within 10 minutes or so...the style and format of his show is stale...ditch him and replace with Richard Allinson. .

Yes, me too. I think he's most amusing to listen to - especially his banter with the very fine Lynn Bowles. Excellent prime time radio.

And you have the audacity to mock Chris Evans...at least he's not stuck in the past like Ken Bruce is (who is as boring as a Sunday).

Yes, I like good honest professionalism, too. Ken is precisely that. Excellent primetime radio in the morning. It's nice not to be shouted at by a gobby egocentric.

I hope Jonathan Ross replaces him...SOON! I'm fed up with Wogan's "Janet and John" stories, the same tired gags and predictable and bland playlist. How many times will he play those boring records with a woman singing at high pitch plucking a harp? Rolling Eyes

Jonathan Ross would bring the breakfast show back to life!

I must have missed the 'woman singing at high pitch plucking a harp' last week, Scott. As for Janet & John, well the stories are still entertaining to me (if I'm driving I have to remember to park up somewhere in advance - not good to drive with obscured vision due to tears of laughter), but then again I welcome the interplay between El Presidente, Deadly, Boggy and Fran, too. As for a predictable playlist, you're evidently not listening to the same mornings as I am.

You'd best stay clear of WUTW this week, then, because Boggy is back so no doubt a couple of J&J stories at least.

Keep JR where he is on a Saturday morning - five times a week would be overkill, IMHO.

Boggy is retiring next summer so that will probably be the end of J+J anyway. It's only on on a Tuesday & Thursday every 3 weeks, I don't think that's excessive, the stories are very short and easy enough to avoid.

Exactly.

Can I also state her that I don't mind Ken Bruce either? He's reasonably funny, reads out stuff at his own expense, plays some good new music from time to time and there's some good banter between him and Lynn. Managed to listen to him each weekday for three months at work last year when I was on a 'special project' and there was nothing wrong with his show. I still manage to catch his show if I'm off through the week or if I've got spare time at the end of the week after all my other 'Listen Again' favourites.

And would sound like every other radio station in the country. And I don't think "Mr. Ego and his sychophantic sidekick" could sustain it for very long anyhow. He does have several other broadcasting commitments, after all. Thankfully!

Re: the woman with a high voice playing a harp. Have Radio 2 actually playlisted Joanna Newsom's 'Ys', which I would have expected to be more suited to Mark Radcliffe's show rather than Wogan's? Laughing

Ken Bruce has to be the smuggest man on Radio. The man is totally up himself-makes out he is so superior to everyone else.

Hopefully he will be shipped out to local radio soon.

It might help your arguement if you could give some examples as I cant hear smug from him. A few too many fallbacks on the same old gags like Terry does for sure, but I dont hear smug when I listen to him. More self deprecation than smug I would say.

There is a certain ironic quality to your suggestion I hope. If you are serious I would have to doubt your sensibilities.

Hey, there's nothing wrong with smugness if you are a very popular radio presenter. Bruce is OK - I rarely listen but he talks just like me Smile

Chris Evans and Ross are more smug, or smugger Confused
