|
|
Comedian Russell Brand is leaving the E4 show Big Brother's Big Mouth after three years to pursue other projects.
Announcing his decision, the flamboyant presenter, 31, thanked programme-makers for "taking the risk of employing an ex-junkie twerp" to front the show.
The Big Brother spin-off is among the highest-rated programmes on digital channel E4, with up to 1.4m viewers.
Brand currently presents a weekly show on BBC Radio 2, and is due to appear in the new St Trinian's film.
"The three years I've spent on Big Brother's Big Mouth have been an unprecedented joy," said the presenter in a statement.
"Big Mouth has afforded me opportunities that are too exciting to turn down, so alas I can do it no more.
"And whilst I recognise this isn't as significant as the resignation of Beckham or the Cuban missile crisis, I just wanted to say thanks to everyone."
Brand had a rocky start to his career, losing several jobs because of erratic behaviour - often caused by a dependency on drink and drugs.
He got his big break on Big Brother's Big Mouth in 2004, a year after celebrity agent John Noel sent him to rehab.
A spokesperson for Channel 4 said: "Russell Brand has been a fantastic front man for E4's Big Brother's Big Mouth for the past three years. We wish him all the best in his new adventures."

We saw a bloke who looked like Russell Brand (it wasn't actually R.B. - but we reckoned he'd deliberately cultivated the likeness) at The Millenium Stadium last Sunday, watching Bristol Rovers (hooray!) play Doncaster Rovers (boo!) in The Football League Trophy Final. _________________ . . . All we need now is for him to leave R2 _________________ Geddon

Lets hope his 'other projects' do not include a regular daytime slot on radio 2. |

I don't think he's leaving Mark.. it's more a case of BB and the sad, bolt-on programmes about the programme are about to be axed. |

Put Brand IN the BB house and lock him in...for ever!! I didn't think Radio 2 could sink any lower than Evans, but with Brand it has proved me wrong. One devotes his show to bad breath (so I am told), the other talks about willies all night (again, so I am led to believe). Standards, BBC? _________________ MiS |

I'm inclined to believe Rachel's suspicions here - the extra BB shows will be quietly shelved (as the main programme may well be too) this year. He's getting out before being associated with a dead duck. As TTS says, though, hopefully he'll move on from R2 as well.... _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

So O'Leary & Brand are both leaving Big Brother
I think we will see Rusell Brand's Big Afternoon Show coming soon to a national radio station near you. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

I don't think even Lesley Douglas would sink that low and punish us the listeners with his presence in the weekday afternoons. Or would she? We have some nets ready to move to another network. |

Mark, this is the second time I've seen you use the word 'nets' - what do you mean?

Mark I thought you meant Jo Brand at first. Thinking about it there are strange similarities... |

It's being treated like a bot that bothers me! That probably explains the nets.

It means we can cover the shows we don't enjoy and tune too ones we do.

Mark - you've obviously been spending too much time on that site RadioToday.
