Usual top-notch show.

Sadly unprophetic to hear George Harrison pondering over the prospect of living to 120.

Does anyone remember which soap John Leyton acted on in the early 60s?

The person who asked for Apache must have had a very wet holiday at Pwlhelli (spelling?) in 1960 as I holidayed at nearby Abersoch that year and the rain was horizontal for most of the time!

Lovely to hear Jose Feliciano's version of Light My Fire, with its happy memories of sunlit autumn days in 1968. An encore in the not-too-distant future must surely be called for, as its flipside was the equally haunting California Dreamin'--an obvious candidate for B side/A side.

I think he was also in a soap called Harper's West One.

And I'm doing 100 lines for poor spelling of Pwllheli--that's correct now, isn't it?

Lovely show--where else would you hear Elvis, the Beatles and Cliff in quick succession? From comments on the BBC board, a serving of Bangers and Mash is just what the nation needs at breakfast time!

Very moved by the letters about Clinton Ford. My thoughts are with him.

I'll try to find out what ex-Hollie Allan Clarke is doing now.

I heard much of the show today, and it was great. Yeah the Purple in 1968, took me back to school green room where we used to bring in our albums and swop.

There's always something on the show that I haven't heard for 40 years .... this week it was by Oedipus Complex ...... and man it was rather naff hearing it now, reminded me somehow of the Only Fools and Horses theme. Rolling Eyes

Thanks Brian.

That's the one - he was top pop star Johnny St. Cyr, singing his new song 'Johnny Remember Me'.....the rest is well known!

Wendy Richard was in it as well, I think.

Excellent show. Was there an undeclared game of connections going on early in the show? We had the Drifters' account of When My Little Girl Is Smiling, which also charted for Jimmy Justice and Craig Douglas, both of whom also had records on in that early slot today.

The Searchers' Ain't Gonna Kiss Ya was a good choice but it's surprising that the researcher didn't pick up that it was the title track of an EP which got into the NME singles chart in 1963.

Amazing that the Deep Purple one never charted. It brought back happy memories of living in Chester at the time it was out.

Mention of Paul Hollingdale was a real blast from the past. He was part of the Breakfast Special team from the late 60s, which also included John Dumnn, Ray Moore and Bruce Wyndham, and had the heavy responsibility of getting me out of bed in the morning! Then all of a sudden, he simply went off the radar. Good to know he's still around and involved.

Can understand why With God on Our Side would be heard in total silence. It's just as cogent as when I first heard it in 1965.

Of course it was Paul Hollingdale who was on as the former 'light programme' turned into R2. And as Tony Blackburn started the ball rolling on R1. If I remember correctly, as Tony started off with The Move's 'Flowers In The Rain', Paul was playing something from The Sound Of Music soundtrack. I don't have personal memories of this as I was only a boy at the time. Can anyone remember what track it was that Paul Hollingdale played?

Regrettably I don't remember what Paul Hollingdale's first track played on R2 was. Help!

Meant to say that a websearch hasn't shed any light on what ex-Hollie Allan Clarke is doing now.

Great show, as usual, but I wonder how many people he infuriated by the reply to the query about a Dave Clark Five greatest hits package...

Yes, I can imagine that others would have liked the details that they emailed to the requester.

Compilations of DC5 hits haven't been plentiful over the years, possibly because of Dave Clark's hold on copyright. I've got a cassette of one such compilation, Glad All Over Again, and see that details of it in CD form are on Amazon. It's generally OK. Perhaps I might go on and write a review.

I've just listened to last Saturday's SOTS online and I must say that bit puzzled me as well. To simply say that Roger the producer has outlined some details via email and leave it there seemed very odd! The natural thing for us listeners to say is: "And..............????".

Very strange.

And as the show was simultaneously broadcast on R1 as well, Julie Andrews has the honour of being the REAL first artist played on Radio 1! It was actually mentioned in one of the newspaper reports at the time, that the swinging new station opened with 'Julie Andrews square version of The Sound Of Music', which confused me for ages, as I thought R1 just opened up with Blackers and The Move!

I only have an LP - for some inexplicable reason I missed out getting the CD when it was generally available nearly 15 years ago. Although I periodically check Amazon for it this is the first time I've seen the CD listed as obtainable, albeit through third party sellers at £30+. I don't want it that badly though.

Have been busy with family items so am late in reflecting on SOTS last Saturday.

Great show, even if the sign off sounded a bit rushed. Good idea to play the Honeycombs' That's the Way, as Have I the Right gets a bit over-used. But was amused that they followed Let's Talk About Living with the Man Who Shot Liberty Valance!

On side 2, Cilla Black's inclusion with You're My World made me think of another of her songs, Liverpool Lullaby. I was singing it to my new grandson last week but struggling with the words. No doubt a Google search might produce them. The Nashville Teens' the Biggest Night of Her Life was a very happy re-discovery--did Harpers' Bizarre also record this?

Cilla's Liverpool Lullaby was originally the B-side of Conversations and I recall I actually preferred it at the time. You've no doubt found the words but they're here http://sniff.numachi.com/pages/tiLIVPLULL;ttLIVPLULL.html I'd completely forgotten that Judy Collins also recorded it

Harpers Bizarre did also record The Biggest Night Of Her Life. Funnily enough I was browsing in town yesterday and nearly bought a Best of... It was a toss up between that and the New Vaudeville Band. The right decision as it turns out, because HB is half the price on Amazon.

I once got up on stage in a pub by Leeds Market and sang "Finchley Central" whilst looking like a member of 'Bow Wow Wow' (well, it was 1982!).

The locals loved it.

The Bob Luman song? I remember that used to get played a lot in the mainstream R2 schedule in the pre-Moir 90s - I get quite nostalgic when I hear it now! They used to play one called 'Do What You Do Do Well' a fair bit too.......

Sorry for recent absence. Have had our grandson to stay--lovely but left very little spare time!

Note new producer on SOTS. Commendable first show and Outtake feature looks promising. But what's happened to Roger?

A joy to hear Harpers Bizarre and Come to the Sunshine--just the thing for a spring morning.

Outstanding 3 in a Row, especially the underrated Joe Brown track, Your Tender Look. A mystery that this was such a small hit.

Away next weekend, so shall probably catch up on Listen Again.

I wonder who will be producing the other SOTS (70s) as Roger Bowman also produced that along with 60s.
