Well, this excellent show finished last night. Did anyone guess the ending, I sort of did when he said "I can't feel it" - but then I thought, is he dead then?

I thought it wouldn't be a dream since the beeb are making a spin off, Ashes to Ashes with Gene and co in the 80's.

But still, for a long time, I've never felt like I don't want this to end but can't wait to see how it finishes!

Well done cast, crew, etc - a bloomin great show.

Hear! Hear! Another excellent show from the Kudos stable. The BEEB seems to be awash with good drama at the moment, opting for good stuff, rather than Big ( Jane Austen) drama names.

I can't remember a show that I've enjoyed so much for a long, long time, maybe the Hustle came a close second.
Last night's programme had all the ingredients for me and I really didn't want it to end, in fact I felt quite sad when it did. I'll really miss the Gene Hunt character, I love all his un pc remarks and abrasive attitude.

I don't understand why the Beeb are not doing another series? the Morgan character could have been developed more as a link between Sam and the future.
Another poster mentioned the chap who plays Sam didn't want to do anymore but on the BBC Breakfast news this morning, the producer said there were only two series planned. Shocked

Looking forward to the spin off series but why the eighties??

I loved it from start to finish, and I reckon last night's episode was the best yet! It's a shame there's to be no more, but I'm looking forward to "Ashes to Ashes". Cool

Just watching it on replay now. I think it will be brillant they are continuing it and going into the 80's. We can see policing in a different light.

The producer must be lying to save Simm from the wrath of Life on Mars fans - there was an extensive interview in SFX Magazine last year when they said they had a "three-year plan."

I have thoroughly enjoyed the 16 episodes, but I'm not entirely sure about the spin-off. Don't mind the 1981 setting but the idea of another 21st Century police officer travelling back is pushing it a bit.

How about a series with old Dixon transporting to the present day? Laughing
He'd be good confronting a terrorist with a smile, cup of tea and "now then son, what'd yer old dad have to say?"
Evenin' all...

Or, the Guv from The Sweeney having to deal with todays coppers and pc brigade.... "Bunch o' pansies"

So..... the bright white light in the tunnel was him dying on the operating table then ? Agreed it was a great series, well acted and bloody funny (bundling in the back of Gene's 'Tina en route to a shout still with gunshot wounds from the previous one.. priceless !)
I bet the bloke who rented that classic MkIII to the beeb used to cringe when he saw the way it was driven !!

It was recently sold (by the production company, I believe) on e-Bay for £12,500 - the proceeds going to charity (Children in Need?). Very Happy

**Spoilers for those who've not watched**

If it was, then 1973 was real and the "future" was always in his head. Next year's series "Ashes To Ashes" will feature a 2007 policewoman in 1981 and she knows about Gene Hunt from Sam's notes.

My interpretation was that he was brought back to 2007 but realised he didn't like it (the signs were always there in the first episode, he just hadn't been aware of how 'dead' he was) so he committed suicide to return back to his 1973 fantasy world. So while he was kissing Annie he was really dying on a pavement in 2007 Manchester - when the Test Card Girl switched the TV off, he really finally died.

But I could be wrong - I'll have to watch the whole thing again!

Pity they played so much naff music from 1973 (when I had my own TV show called "Gus Honeybun's Magic Birthdays"!) and not the decent stuff from the excellent touring bands that were around at the time!

PS: Hello to all carrot-crunchers!

So Steve Wright has just been chatting about it. If there's one person who knows about being stuck in the past every day, it's Wrighty! Laughing

My ancestors tell me that Stackridge were big on the college and large venue circuit in 1973. Not a peep was heard from them in this TV series!

PS: Carrot soup anyone?

You're only interested in Stackridge 'coz of the lettuce-thrashing, aren't you Gus? Wink

Let's be fair; the series included such diverse acts of the period as 'Atomic Rooster', 'Hawkwind', 'Audience' and Ananda Shankar, as well as 'Sweet' and David Bowie (obviously). Cool

Saw the first series but somehow missed all of this one. Will have to rip it once it appears....

They also featured a song called "When the City Sleeps" by Bombadil which was a pseudonym for prog-rockers Barclay James Harvest.

There was also a brilliant version of 'Somewhere over the rainbow' by an unknown singer.

My mates in the burrow never got on with that Atomic Rooster. Nasty piece of work! (Mrs. Honeybun reckoned that Carl Palmer was kinda cute though).

Anyhow, all the tracks played in Life on Mars were wholly predictable!

I've heard this song on a few films and tv programmes and after Life on Mars decided to find out who it was...its an artist called Israel Kamakawiwi'ole....and oh yes, I've downloaded it from itunes. Excellent, my girlfriend had it playing constantly last night!

Currently enjoying the re-runs of Life on Mars series 1 and 2 even more than the first time around! but, I've also taken to trying to spot possible errors in the sets or outside shots.
Not many so far to be honest but Mondays episode slipped up big time with a reflection of a satelite dish in the car's side window! Laughing

Plenty of outside burglar alarm boxes and balanced flue terminals too! not many of those in the early 70's were there!

Also, not that many of you will remember anyway, I'm sure I spotted a Austin Princess or Ambassador, the wedge shaped one, in the background. I'm pretty sure these were not around in 73?

Interesting subject if anyone watches Heartbeat' you sometimes spot things in the distance which you wouldn't see in those times. Laughing There is a website which I can't remember, for those who spot mistakes in films.
