Hello everybody ,Gazmando here hope you are all well.
I don,t like rules and regulations in radio but something needs to be done about the repetition of records.
Last week SK ended her show with a song by Stefi which was then the second song on TWs show.
The next day TW ended with the stefi song which was then the second song on KBs show.
Surely they can bring a rule in that a record can't be played on a show if it has been played on the preceding show.
My next rule would be that no DJ should be allowed to play any records that they played the day before.
Surely this would make the DJ's/producers put a record bit more effort into their shows(STEVE WRIGHT ARE YOU LISTENING)
Thanks gripe over

Hi Gazmando, welcome to R2OK!

Just 4 or 5 years ago the rule was that the same artist couldn't be played on on successive shows, let alone songs. Sadly, they've got rid of that rule now Sad

Hey, Gazmando -welcome from me too.

I have no idea of any rules, each show has a different producer and I think they have control over the playlist with a bit of input from presenters so I don't know if they communicate with each other (presenters that is).

Wossy's show and Richard Allinsons tends to play better / different music, both due in a massive way to the presenters.

I agree with your comments though, but don't think will happen, new or upcoming records get a lot of play.

I reckon the rule, regarding the Stefi record, is that if the BBC play it ten times a day then they get paid for it Wink

Although hearing the same record ten times a day can become annoying, you have to remember that not all radio 2 listeners are lorry drivers like myself or working from home and are therefore listening to radio 2 constantly through the day.

Some people only listen on the way into work and on the way home or if they pop out somewhere in the car. If a current record was restricted on its airtime then only a fraction of the daily audience would get to hear it and the stations revenue from the record companies would decline.

However I do agree that a bit of common sense as to the spacing of an a-list song wouldnt hurt.

Sounds like this one: MARK RONSON - Stop Me
If it breaks into Diana Ross' 'You Keep Me Hangng on' towards the end, then it definitely is.

I'm not the only one who thinks of Teletubbies at the start of the Mika record then - I doubt that Rush's 'Far Cry' will get a millionth of the airplay this has.

On Thursday someone e-mailed Ken about this and he denied that it would ever happen Rolling Eyes

If anyone enlightened him further he didn't let on.

The overkill on Mark Ronson's 'Stop Me' at least led to Stuart Maconie playing the far superior Smiths original one Saturday afternoon!

I'd also like Arcade Fire's 'Intervention' to chart thanks to the airplay on Maconie's show with Mark Radcliffe, but it won't happen.

I had to turn off 'Rehab' by Amy Winehouse this morning. Sorry but I'm still not ready to hear that. I think it'll take many years yet before I am, If I ever will be after the overkill that one got.

I thought it was a good record until the playlist flogged it to death, like several others Crying or Very sad

It made me switch the bedside radio off and get up! Smile (Like Nod, I'm firmly of the opinion that it's been flogged to death - but from my POV, it also puts the 'whine' in Amy Winehouse....

It seems that the latest song to be flogged to death is that Fountains Of Wayne one. I quite liked it at first, but now it seems to have got stuck in the CD player and is played every 10 minutes or so (well that's what it feels like anyway)

I've been moaning about this for ages. They take no notice - we're only the listeners, after all!! Such lack of imagination - there are so many great tracks that seldom see the light of day and we get the same old trash rammed down our necks.

Everything I loved about music on Radio 2 seems to be being taken away.
Previously you used to hear such a fantastic variety of music and every day used to bring something different.
Now its the same old music by the same old artists day in day out.
I wish music lovers were in control of the station but it seems to be run by arrogant people who just want to impress their media mates.
I also wish Lesley Douglas put aside 3 weeks of her life and listened to DAYTIME Radio 2 to see how repetetive the music has become.
1 record from a musical, 2 records on tracks of my years, and about 15 minutes of non stop oldies are about the only chance you get to hear anything different.

You won't be disappointed.

Can you only get bfbs radio 2 through the internet Mark? as I go online with my Nintendo Wii and it doesn't work with real player etc.
Yes Santa I wish they'd add a small dash of Sundays to daytime, even if you didn't like a song much it would be preferable to hearing the same ones over and over.
