The amount of litter on Britain's beaches has increased by more than 90% since 1994, says an annual survey.

People should start to respect things, and treat the beaches like they do there own homes. They wouldn't leave rubbish on there own floors without binning it.

In Orkney, the population have a regular "Bag The Bruick" campaign where volunteers go out onto their local beaches to clear away litter and debris that has been washed up from the sea.

In my experience, the islands have some of the cleanest beaches in the UK, no doubt in some part due to the hours put in each year by these volunteers.

I suspect other parts of the UK will have similar schemes on a very local scale but some of the more popular beaches must be extremely difficult to clean up if it was left to volunteers.

I'm not a beach person, even when I go abroad - suntan lotion, sand and books just dont mix!

However, I do think if you bring it with you, take it back with you.

Can't abide littering full stop, saw a teenager once throw his coke can onto a park grass when just 2 yards to his left was a bin!
